Mental Wellness and Self Care Queen

It’s winter time and that means our skin is a little more on the drier side. From the increase of cold to having to switch products what is your winter skin routine?

All in the skin with Kari Skin

I’ve gone to Kari Skin many times. I rely on their expertise to guide me on what to do when it comes to the health of my skin. With that being said let’s talk with Kimberly of Kari Skin on two products to use.

As the temperature lowers, skin may naturally become increasingly dry and or dehydrated . To combat that, I recommend two of my favorite products. They are PCA’s Creamy Cleanser and Silk Coat Balm. Both products are hydrating, moisturizing and soothing which is a winning combination for dry winter skin.
Creamy Cleanser is a gentle hydrating cleanser that removes makeup and debris. Ingredients such as rose hip oil, sunflower oil and lilac leaf culture extract leaves skin smooth, firm and conditioned.

Silk Coat Balm is a must have in your skincare wardrobe. This cream contains jojoba seed oil, vitamin E and hydrolyzed silk which, calms, rejuvenates and soothes all while protecting the skin against aging. I love it because it deeply moisturizes without being greasy. Both are available at Kari Skin available on line and in store.

Lip Service

When I was younger my parents would say cover your face when you are out in the cold. Being the typical teenager I tonight it was lame. So I suffered from dry cracked lips. It was simple knowledge that all I needed to do was cleanse, exfoliate, and moisturize. This time of the year having a heavy moisturizer does wonders. In addition going to bed with moisturized lips helps. So don’t be like my younger self. Take the time to care for your skin and don’t forget the lips. Also don’t:

  • Rub
  • Bite
  • Pick
You can get this at Kari Skin

What’s in your moisturizer?

Lotions and moisturizers that are richer is your best bet. Lotions that are more cream based tend to work best. It helps to lock in the needed extra TLC your skin needs during this time of the year. If you’re one to have more clogs pores you should look for ones that are non comedogenic. Also if you moisturize your skin more often in the winter you can thank the colder weather for that.

Facials in the Winter

To be honest one thing I’ve learned since getting facials on a regular basis is that our skin renews every 28 days. Many people who can afford it will get one once a month to every 6 weeks. That isn’t feasible for all. Many others will elect going once every quarter. If your budget is tighter than that try every 6 months allowing one of those times to be closer to the winter.

Facials will change in products use just like they should when you are home. Richer products are used in the winter to heal and protect. Work with your esthetician on home products to use. Some of my favorite facials in Philadelphia and beyond:

These facials come in every budget. For the woman on the go: get Heyday and Face Foundriè. For the woman who wants a little more of a private traditional facial try Nbeauty, and Kari Skin. For an all exclusive experience try Body + Beauty Lab Radnor.

Don’t forget to drink your water-hydrate from the inside out

Overall although facials can be apart of your normal upkeep it can be a form of self care. Here are some other examples of self care in the winter:

  • Enjoy a warm bath
  • Journal
  • Bake
  • Go outside
  • Home skin care routine
  • Light candles
  • Enjoy a hot beverage
  • Ski or other winter sports
  • Staycation

Seasonal Depression during the Winter

This is the time of the year where it hits the most. Many will experience it. It looks different to everyone. For me I tend to notice my lack of care for the things I generally love. I’m more distant not calling family or friends as often. More irritated and less productive. I tend to do things like light therapy, therapy, getting more active, scheduling things like self care, and being open to a select few as a way of checking in to combat it. In addition I went to my doctors in the end of the summer to get medication that I take 2 times a day! This has helped me personally. So far seasonal depression hasn’t been as bad. My goal is to find ways to decrease its hold on my life so I can feel better and do more.

Also note this can last until spring comes! It can happen all year long and at any time of the year. Even if you are on the go there’s a self care regimen for you! If you are in need of a night cream which is a great way to keep your skin moisturized try this option from SheKnows.

So I hope I gave reminded you to take better care of your skin and yourself this winter. Today is National Winter Skin Relief. You are deserving of taking a few extra moments to care for your personal needs.
