As the world opens up its important to move at your own pace. While many will be dusting off their passports it’s key to make sure that you are comfortable with getting out. One of the best ways to control travel is to do a staycation. Staycations provide ways to stay in your town and rejuvenate.

Staycation Goals
One of the ways to have the best staycation is to establish goals. How long will you be going? Who is going? It’s always better to do a solo staycation if you ask me but there’s nothing wrong with a couple’s staycation too. Although leaving home will coat you money it may not be as pricey as it seems. Remember you can control your location so find the location with the amenities that matters to you!

Price Matters
I tend to splurge a little when it comes to a staycation. The reason is simple I love amenities. My bed is already amazing at home. So I want a great relaxing sleep as well as room service if applicable. I want to drink wine that I bring from home or order it to my room as well. I may want to swim so I may look for a hotel that has one or a spa nearby. Either way the price will go up or down depending on what you’re looking for. Be clear on what you want.
Make the Staycation Time
I hear all the time about how people don’t have the time. That’s usually false. You don’t have to do a staycation on the weekend. It’s actually cheaper to do the middle of the week. So think outside of the box when you think of time management and staycations! Also prioritize yourself as a priority. You are not an option. If life hasn’t taught you much it’s taught you that time waste for on one. So it’s not one day, it’s book today.
Sleep or Play?
Since I tend to do a lot of events in Philadelphia my staycation goals are about resting and sleep. Sleep and rest are too different things. Rest is about renewing your mind. You can do that without sleep. So when I go on staycations I’m not interested in leaving the property unless I have to get food. To be honest I pick places that have restaurants or food service to avoid leaving. If you’re staycation is about play you make pick a spot that is close to all of the action of your city. You would pick a place where you wont have to Uber far and can walk to fun places as well.
Being Resourceful
One of the things I would always say this was about 8 or so years ago about how much money I didn’t have to do a staycation. If you are spending money online, or simply buying coffee at Starbucks as an example, you can save for a staycation. Again an overnight can cost you under $100. I usually average out to $100-$300 for a full weekend. It may cost more depending on when you go. I would check your city’s listed events. If there is a conference coming or major holiday-avoid these weekends. They will cost more. It’s not impossible it just will take some planning. Aren’t you worth it?!
Staycation To Do
I love to simply rest but here is somethings you can get done especially if you’re alone:
- Catch up on a good book
- Have some time alone to plan a few things ahead in the quiet
- Take a bubble bath or long shower
- Bring your favorite activity
- Go sightseeing if you’re doing it for play
- Visit your favorite restaurant or have food delivered
- Enjoy some mindless television
- Turn off your phone or mute it-remove it from being so close to your bed
- Spa day in room or at an actual local spa
- Day trips
- Be a tourist in your city
- Ride a bike or other physical activity like skating, etc.
Team Hotel or Bed and Breakfast?
These are just a few things you can do during a staycation. Also although I’m team hotel and will find ways to splurge a little on a pricer hotel do not count out Bed and Breakfast. They give you the ability to do the same things but have a more of a home feel. If you do a staycation with another person make sure you’re on the same page. If not it will add more stress. Relieving stress should always be the biggest point of a staycation. Spending time feeling as if your needs weren’t messed defeats the purpose of the staycation.
So even if you’re not ready to go on a full vacation give a staycation a thought. Some of my favorites have been:
So I hope that you make staycations apart of your budgets. So far this year I’ve done 3. I have 3 more on the horizon. It’s in my budget as well as on my vision board. Make yourself a priority! Staycations help with self care too! Nothing like personal time to realign!
