So yes we are in full virtual school. We have been since school started. Our children’s school has been in full session. So how have our kids adjusted?
I miss my friends..
That is the phrase I hear the most. They have been unhappy with virtual school for the most part. They are finally getting into the swing of things as of now. However the lack of physically being able to see their friends has been super hard! I understand that. It’s more or less a bigger issue for my youngest who is in 1st grade. She didn’t have the kindergarten year she normally would have had last year and now it’s a continuation.
Why Online?
My youngest has brought up the fact that she doesn’t have asthma or any other health issues. She wants to know why she can’t go to school and follow the CDC rules. Yes she knows what the CDC is because we talk to our children about it. She’s aware that the oldest have asthma and would be fine if they stayed home and she went in. However it’s best for us to keep all of them safe.
I Hate it Here
Those words haven’t been said but in the beginning it was hard. My youngest was sad almost everyday. She wasn’t her normal joyful self. We started to get creative like doing their favorite lunches during the times their classmates would have their lunch. So Taco Tuesday and Pizza Fridays! We would get them extra treats like having water ice delivered etc. Also we found that doing Turn Up Fridays helped too. That is when we turn the music mix up and start the mornings off with music to celebrate getting through the week. As more and more kids came online too my youngest started loving online more. We found normalcy.
Watch Their Eyes
We found that with all of the breaks online they are still on there quite significantly. I got my Fabfitfun box and in it was blue light cancelling glasses. I thought I wonder if they make them for kids…they do! I bought all three their own pair and they love them. I’m happy because I know their eyes won’t receive damage. They can average to be about 20 a pair I found a 3 pack for under 20 from Amazon!
Uniforms
They have to be in full uniforms while online. The dress down days they have had have been amazing. I hope they have more dress down days to be honest. For us dress down days still mean clothes and no pajamas but clothes they want to wear. The dress down days the kids have brings on much greater and happier morale. It’s been pleasant.
Back and Forth
There has been times where I have had to go back and forth for paperwork or more books. It’s a part of the process that doesn’t bother me in the least. My kids school has more books than a college students. Just because they are online they aren’t without traditional books. I love that part. Nothing irks me more than paying for school and teachers giving hand out papers for lessons. We picked their school because it’s not apart of the Philadelphia School District. Too many issues have come from them. We wanted our kids at a good school. Often times that means we have to pay for it. That in itself is a privilege because so many amazing parents and teachers can’t afford to. I’m grateful that we are in the position to do so.
Parental Guilt
We have both expressed that we feel guilty for having them home seeing how they were adjusting in the beginning. We don’t feel bad for our reasons why. It’s always been about their health. We are doing what we can to avoid getting COVID-19. Although it’s been stressful adjusting to virtual school and although they can see their classmates and teachers online, it hasn’t been easy! We are hoping that this won’t have a long term affect on them in the future. We don’t know how much longer they will be online but with cases going up who knows if there will be another closure either. What we know if it takes Pizza Fridays, stress balls, increased family game nights, or whatever else than so be it! We will do it all and more to ensure their safety…
Am I still drinking Winc? Absolutely you can click here and save $22 off of your first order! Having my wine delivered right to my door has been time saving and at times the equivalent to Pizza Fridays for adults too! I’m not the teacher’s assistant, lunch lady, Assistant principal, and parent these days
Cheers to making it to Progress Reports! We are half way through a new semester. We have a few days off coming up and that means parents can breath a sigh of relief and the kids can unwind as well!
We are finally in a flow that works for all of us and we look forward to many more great days ahead!
