2025 is coming in hot but bringing in the cold. So I took the Cold Plunge at the Retreat at the Vault. From my nerves and concerns on if I was capable, how long I could do it, and more I’m glad to have had the experience.
What is The Retreat at Vault?
This is a wellness and recovery center. There’s a Jiu Jitsu as well. From the cold plunge tubs, 6D massage chairs, and infrared center this is going to be my next self care oasis. Also keep in mind that there is so much more coming to this space. Think of it as a recovery center for athletes as well as self care for all. It’s designed with your wellness and mindfulness in mind. Located in Morton, PA it’s a mere 10-20 minutes from Philadelphia.
What to expect at the Retreat at the Vault
For one, this location is still being renovated but it is ready to use. I plan to go back when it’s fully completed too. On the second floor is where you will find the 6D massage chairs, plunge, and sauna. So be patience as you navigate this location. What they lack in a fully completed space they make up with the gift of hospitality.
What is Cold Plunging?
To take a cold plunge means that you have submerge into water that is around 30 degrees. The cold water creates a hydrotherapy that helps to reset your mind, aids in muscle relaxation, and more. Also keep in mind that you should never cold plunge for more than 15 minutes.
How do you prepare for a Cold Plunge?
Honestly what helped me was me hyping myself. Taking a cold plunge is a mental workout above all. So days before I was watching other videos of newcomers. Hydration before hand is your friend as well. I made sure that I drank a lot of fluids beforehand. Stretching helped me days before hand.
During the Cold Plunge
Sabrina who is the wife of the husband and wife team was a godsend. She explained everything that my body could or would do during the plunge. She also reminded me that the worst thing you could during was to stop breathing or holding your breath. Sabrina walked me through my breath work. This helped me to be able to sit in the water for about 45 seconds with the water coming well beyond my stomach area. My next goal is to go at least to my shoulder.
Benefits of Cold Plunging
For those like myself it helps yo release good endorphins. Immediately after the cold plunge I felt a sense of pride and joy. Part due to me completing the cold plunge and the other part genuinely happy from the actual plunge itself. Either way you couldn’t scrub the smile off my face.
Another benefit to cold plunging is increased fat burning, better sleep, and immunity help. Cold plunging is not for everyone. If you have any underlying health issues then you should consult with your doctor.
Infrared Sauna at The Retreat at The Vault
I enjoyed after letting my body naturally warm up getting into the infrared sauna. For me I use time as such to do my prayers and to calm my spirit. It’s important for mental health reasons not to leave places like such and not check my spirit. I came in a little disoriented from things that happened before I got there. Beautifully I left with such peace in my heart.
