If you are a fan of desserts this new cafe is right up your alley. The Sugary is a new dessert, cake, and coffee cafe. Located at 251 S. 21st street in Philadelphia, PA. It is a small but mighty woman owned cafe that can specializes in celebrations and more. So with a name like The Sugary, is it worth the hype?
Before you go to the Sugary
They are more of a order and take out spot. There is a small table there but space is limited. Although it’s not as big as some cafe they pack a big punch in what they offer. Parking on the street can be a little difficult. So I would suggest that you plan to park a little ways and enjoy your walk there and back to your car. I enjoyed the quiet time as I walked there and back. It was nice to get out into the city as it is located in the Rittenhouse section of the city. The staff are warm and welcoming. Before I said who I was, I was greeted with a smile and warm hellos. If this is your first time reading a review from me when it comes to food, I like to test the business. If the are not as inviting, short, or otherwise I make mental note of it. I have always been big on customer service.
The Ultimate Cinnamon roll
I love a good cinnamon roll. The cinnamon rolls at The Sugary is one of the best I have ever had. They warmed it up for me and it was at absolute perfection. My personal history with cinnamon rolls is very simple. Every Christmas my dad would make them. It is to the point that both of my siblings do the same for their families. We enjoy cinnamon rolls and the smell of them brings such a joy to my heart. When I ate the one at The Sugary, instantly it took me to my childhood. Immediate smile came over me. Ever have something so good that you do an instant dance? That is exactly what I did when I took my first bite.
Chai Please at the The Sugary
I am a stickler when it comes to a good chai latte. Some people don’t do a great job. At The Sugary I asked for mine to be made with oat milk. Here’s how good it was? I enjoyed it put it in the fridge, reheated it and it was still as good as it was when I drank it at the restaurant. I drank the rest of it along with a small glass of wine to finish the treats I didn’t finish earlier in the day. Just know they have great selections of coffees, teas, espresso, and other drinks like a strawberry acai refresher.
Chocolate Hi Hat
This has to be the best chocolate cupcake I have had in a long time. The cupcake itself was so moist. The top which makes it a Hi hat is dipped in chocolate ganache. It was decadent from the first and last bite. This is one of their most requested cupcake and I see why. I highly suggest you enjoy it room temperature. The Hi Hat is one of those desserts that if you have it you order more. If you don’t get it and get it at a later time you will want to kick yourself for delaying it.
Almond Cookies
I love a good almond cookie. The cookie can’t be hard as a brick but also made to be a solid cookie. I can attest that at The Sugary they make almond cookie perfection. They also have other flavors to their cookies too. The almond cookies here is a great dessert to have an enjoy with a great cup of coffee. I would highly suggest that if you purchase these do not just get one. I finished this at home and immediately thought how I should have grabbed a few more to enjoy after breakfast.
Best Known For
They are best known for having ready made cakes made. I am talking about the round 8 inch I believe are the dimensions layered cakes. Many people who are in need to come prepared for a celebration come to them. Here is why? They have a beautiful assortment of cards that you can purchase. If someone you love needs a pick me up, birthday, anniversary, or other celebration you can grab a cake, dessert, card, and be prepared. This works for non planners to pull off a great surprise with limited notice. If you ever tried to get a cake that wasn’t grocery store quality this is not always accommodatable.
The Sugary has been in existence since 2017. They decided to move into a retail location. All of their desserts are made in the store. If you are looking for a wedding cake (another huge speciality for them) use their website. This bakery has made me a customer. Next up-trying the Banana Salted Caramel cupcake.
