If you love barbecue and live in Pennsylvania it’s time to take a trip to Tanglewood Fire and Smoke. Located in Folsom Pennsylvania which is minutes away from Philadelphia is some of the best barbecue that you have eaten. There is so much flavor as well as passion in each dish so let me share.
Location of Tanglewood
I’ve been near this location many times and didn’t know it existed. So if you are familiar with Folsom you know that it’s located off of MacDade Blvd. Definitely use your GPS but know that it’s not hard to find at all. You can order ahead online for pick up. Be patient as some of the items they may wait until you arrive to make sure it’s hot. While there I witnessed the staff in action and they definitely are thorough in the packing of the orders. They are also open Thursday-Sunday from noon to 7 or sell out. All meats are smoked in-house.
Options at Tanglewood
They have appetizers, meats by the pound, sandwiches, sides, and desserts. I would highly suggest that you get your order by the pound when it comes to meats especially if your feeding a family. In addition the meats all come with house made picked and cornbread. The cornbread melts in your mouth. It’s almost as if you don’t have to chew it. It’s not crumbly as it holds together. The only issue that you will have is which meats to get. In addition to their rib offerings is having them done sticky which is equivalent to having them smothered in house made barbecue sauce.
Buffalo Pig Bites
These are pork belly nuggets that are slathered in buffalo sauce and served with a ranch and goat cheese dipping sauce. Don’t let the goat cheese sway you it literally makes the ranch sauce even more creamy. It’s a combination of just a meat that again initial taste melts in your mouth but not soggy in the least bit.
Smoky Queso
These are served with the most amazing well seasoned chips you will ever have. Super crunchy chips dipped in warm queso is a must have. This was served to us (Amanda of Phillyfoodandbarrs) first and I knew from this dish all other dishes would be great. Dining inside of the facility which has plenty of seating, they offered to bring the items to use in the order we wanted them. We weren’t simply rushed to hurry and dine.
Smoked Brisket
Every element of brisket was achieved. From the flavor to the texture, Tanglewood got it right! I definitely took most of it home to my husband who literally devoured it in mere minutes. He hasn’t had barbecue in a long time. The enjoyment on his face spoke volumes.
Ribs at Tanglewood
The ribs were so well done in a good way that you could slide them off the bone with little effort. In addition they still held their shape. We tried the ribs with and without the Blue-Q sauce. Blue-Q is an house sauce made with Kansas style blueberry and bourbon sauce. It’s the most closest to a traditional barbecue sauce while tasting like nothing you could compare it to in store!
Mac and Cheese
This has to be one of the most coveted side dish when it comes to barbecue. They took it and put a spin on it with it by making theirs with chipotle jack cheese. It adds a burst of flavor that alone or paired with one of the meats is good. The only thing I could tell you is regardless if it’s just for you or a family definitely order a large. The small is more than enough but with Mac and cheese this good there’s no such thing as more than enough.
Tanglewood is more than a good barbecue spot they are the spot to be. Opened only 8 months ago they are here and ready to prove themselves. In addition you can now order them through GrubHub. They also take all forms of payment from traditional to Google/Apple Pay or even Cash App. A special thank you to the owner as well as the staff of Tanglewood Fire & Smoke for hosting Amanda and I.
Keep in mind this is just a small offering of what they have. They serve many more sides, various hotdogs and leave room for dessert.
Follow them on Instagram or Facebook. In addition you can see the Reel I created as well so you can get a full visual of the goodness!
