In 1999 a group called the Lox was definitely the It group. When ride or die chick hit the airways that’s all you heard men saying they needed in their lives. The song was hot, the beat was sick thanks to producer Timbaland however there were a few issues.
Lyrics Please?!
Don’t get me wrong I was singing the lyrics too. I got caught up in a conversation with a parent at my daughter’s school about it. The male started to tell me how there weren’t any ride or die chicks anymore. I asked him did he mean loyal women, or the concept that the song stated? He looked confused. I knew he didn’t know the lyrics and so I had to challenge him to look them up. I don’t know much about rap but when I’m confident about lyrics and lyrics that I can still remember my little cocky alternative personality starts coming out.
Do you KNOW The Words?
In the song it’s suggested in verse one that the girl he’s with got a man who is locked up he treats her like he wants but she’s still willing to do whatever for him. Second verse another woman don’t even take care of her kids, don’t care about life outside of making him happy he gives her bare minimum but she’s still down cause he’s giving out good sex. After I pulled the lyrics again I asked him are you talking about loyalty or are you talking about a no good woman who don’t even care about herself or her kids just long as you get what you need and she help you with whatever even crime? He said oh yeah I mean loyalty.
Confused Much
My next question is if this loyal woman you want, are you willing to be just as loyal? He said “naw” she got to hold it down. He looked like he was in his mid 40s so I definitely was taken back. I told him loyalty not shared is called stupidity. If you aren’t willing to put out what you claim you want, then what are you asking? He was irritated by me. I said listen I think we all deserve loyalty however my loyalty needs to be reciprocated. It is earned. So if loyalty is what you’re after than maybe you need to change the game. He said yeah that’s probably why I got a lot of kids and no wife. I definitely agreed with him.
Loyalty Matters
Ladies and gentlemen in order to get loyalty you must be loyal and that’s with anything. You can’t get a good woman or man and you raggedy. Start at home, you know on the inside. I told that man many folks won’t even be loyal to a brand these days and you want them to be loyal to you and for what? Someone who has your back is invaluable but again it’s give and take. I’m not riding for the thought of it sounding good. People will let you play boo boo the fool if you allow it. Be careful of where you put your loyalty. Not everyone is deserving.
As I got my daughter and walked away he tried to hit me with a line I said sir I’m married nice try plus I got a good head on my shoulder. Work on your loyalty and then you can find a woman just like me. My daughter looked at me puzzled I told her age doesn’t make you smart. She said mommy daddy would be proud. I told her maybe but you never let someone devalue you not even for a second.
