We all know the story of Little Red Riding Hood. The story of a little girl who is commissioned to go to her Grandma’s house to give her food as she laid ailing. Told to stay the course she deviates and runs into the Wolf, Allison Gregory takes this story and flips it. What you get is Red Riding Hood a journey of understanding self and accepting truths.
Before You Go
The show is 75 minutes with no intermission. In addition, the show is for all so be prepared for kids especially to talk back to the characters. Snacks and drinks with theatre approved cups are back. Give yourself plenty of time to park, get snacks, and get settled. Parking is extremely tight. Add at least 15-20 minutes for parking alone. At the end there is a chance to ask questions of the cast. Due to the amount of patrons not all questions will be taken.
Red Riding Hood Set
I loved how the set was simple yet effective. It gave the audience the ability to be apart of the show without feeling over produced. However do not take the simplicity of the set as something that takes away from the show. It adds so much depth to it.
Ciera Gardner
The whimsical way in which Red Riding Hood started off was so engaging especially to the adults. They played the part of Delivery Person and more. You will see how they flip roles many times. Full of energy they will engage the crowd in many ways from the youngest to the oldest. Ciera will be on the podcast this Friday as we discuss her start in theatre and more. They took on Red Riding Hood and made it all their own. I enjoyed them.
Jo Vito Ramirez
Jo plays Wolfgang. There is a refreshing flip that takes place as well. Jo is the first on the stage. They take on so much joy as they engage the crowd. Honestly Jo’s energy set the stage. It was through Jo that the children lean into what they say. The crowd knew Jo was the Wolf and they wanted them to step into the role immediately. However Jo built the character over time.
Take Aways of Red Riding Hood
One of the most important thing I took away is learning by seeing how we take on multiple roles daily. At one point we tend to believe that we are destined to stay in one place. If you learn anything in this life you know that change is inevitable. I took away the giddiness of the story. Kids as they engaged said some of the most craziest things. They don’t have filters. Adults are so tight when it comes to leaning into full experiences. So as the loudness of the crowd increased I took the time to see the show from their eyes.
The Arden Theatre does an amazing job of bringing life into every production. In addition to this they are also offering Arden Drama School and Arden Summer Camp. Some children don’t always see themselves on stages. Kids having the ability to use their imagination and engulph themselves into the Arts could unlock a life of artistic creativity. Thank you to the Arden Theatre and Perpetual Motion PR for having me. The production is here until June 9th with many matinee opportunities for younger crowds. Tickets available are now.
