Today is National Comfy Day. When I think about what makes me comfy, I think of things that are soft, inviting, or things that make me feel warm and full. Comfort is subjective. For instance, I have a Comfy which is a sweater/blanket that I love. For others this would be too bulky or too hot. Let’s talk about ways to increase your comfort and how that plays into your daily self-care.
The Difference in Comfort and Being Comfortable
You can be in comfort but too comfortable. Here is an example, you find comfort in the arms of a man that is not yours and be too comfortable in leaving that man alone. Everything that provides comfort doesn’t mean that it is something you should keep. Another example is loving alcohol but being too comfortable having checks and balances when it comes to discerning when enough is enough. I love a great cocktail but not enough to overindulge. I have ample non-alcoholic cocktails and more on hand. Also, when I train I also do not indulge in a lot if any alcohol. The point is to understand the difference.
Finding Comfort at Home
I know that we are a spend society. So, there are so many gadgets and widgets that are there to help us be in comfort. However, like me you have plenty of things in your home already to enjoy without spending more money. Here are some examples of what you can do at your own home to provide comfort at home:
- Good sleep: includes nap, sleeping late, going to bed early
- Keeping the temperature at home comfortable
- Great cup of coffee
- Clothes that make you feel good
- Good/favorite meal
- Keeping your home peaceful
- Not allowing drama into your home
- Longer shower/bubble bath
Looking for Comfort while Out
I have covered everything from spa days, sleep pods, Sleepphones aka headphones for sleep, nail salons and more. The options are endless. There are a few things that you may not think is a great way to enjoy comfort. I am a book nerd so anything that gives me quiet times, and more are things that I seek after. Here are things you can do outside of the home:
- Hang with friends
- Spa
- Nail salon
- Gym
- Take a trip
- Coffee shop
- Favorite restaurant
- Take a walk
Also keep in mind that whether you are in the home or out and about do not forget the comfort of travel.
Travel and Comfort
I will be the first to admit that although I do love traveling it does bring about levels of anxiety. That is to be understood. However, once I get through security if I am traveling via plane the excitement of the journey kicks in. From thinking about the planning process to executing the plan I love traveling. Now when you travel you must take in a few factors. I travel differently depending on whom I am traveling with. When I travel with the family, its more of anxiety moment waiting on us to arrive and most of the time through. With my husband I am very much relaxed. I travel alone a little better just because I am only worried about myself.
Traveling and your Personal Comfort
When I travel with friends, I like too but it can be hard due to my personal travel style. For instance, I need to be at the airport at least 2 hours ahead even though I live about 7 minutes away. It is the comfort of getting settled and through security. Regardless of how early I travel I like to enjoy my glass of wine or cocktail.
This isn’t about my nerves. I like to start my vacation vibes early. As much as I work hard daily when I travel, I need to enjoy my time. Some of my friends are a little later when getting to the airport. If you travel with friends and are ready to enjoy some of the comforts of your journey, set personal boundaries and talk about everything especially financial.
Either way today think about what you want to make you feel all the levels of comfort. Enjoy and indulge in one activity today and try to add it in once a day. It can be simple like an extra long shower, a few more minutes of sleep, enjoying a great cup of coffee and more-you are deserving. Comfort is a part of self care and knowing how to tap in daily helps when life blows you can better handle it.
