Happy Monday. Today is the start of a new summer series. On these summer series we will cover one aspect of summer mental health ideals. Today I want to focus on taking road trips. The road trips are for you to find smaller ways to enjoy your summer. Not everyone can travel on long vacations that require airplanes and more. So how do you make a road trip work for you for your mental health. Let’s start road tripping!
All week I will be giving you road trip suggestions. These suggestions will come in a series of post that you can find on all my social medias. From road trip ride playlists, destinations, what to pack and more. Here are some ways that road trips help to clear your mind:
• Gives you ability to drive for long periods of time great for seeing the road and clearing levels of anxiety
• From songs to podcasts they can help you enjoy the journey more and more
• Allows you to move from bored and not having to do to focusing on your location
Road Tripping Alone
There are levels to road tripping. One is taking one alone. I personally love taking a long road trip alone. No one to share snacks or listening suggestions with. However, since I do have a family, I do enjoy taking them every now and again on a road trip. Some of the road trips have been out of necessity like when we traveled for a funeral. Others have been to see family and wanting the kids to relax in the driving experience.
Family Road Trips
When you are traveling with the family there are a lot of things you can do to get yourself and your mind right. One be prepared for all things. The other is to make sure that you have snacks, several playlists, something to do in the car, and more. Plan plenty of time to travel. If you are traveling and must be there within a certain time, make sure you leave almost 24 hours ahead. Getting there is going to be the journey. Pack patience. I have a SUV aka my Chevrolet Traverse. It has 3 rows. So, we usually have one kid in the last row and two kids in the second row.
This stops the fights that likes to ensue over leg room. The person in the last row is also in charge of snacks. You need room for road trips. So, if you have a smaller car, make sure that you find unique ways to keep kids as separated as possible.
Packing for the Road Trips
There is an art. You need to be prepared. For instance, with the kids I focus on snack boxes. There are containers that you can get. Pack them with variety of snacks. In addition, bring more snacks. However, with snack packing and drinks means that you will need to incorporate bathroom breaks too. If you have children and if they are small, make sure that you have an emergency bathroom for the car. This is something that can be used as a last resort, but you will need it.
Road Trip Fights
My husband and I used to be the couple that as soon as we got together, we would be fussing about something. This was in college. However, as adults we rarely argue. I know it sounds crazy but its true. We do get into bigger arguments but leave out a lot of smaller ones. So, when you are on a road trip, and you relate to others let’s argue proof your road trip. For instance, discuss your roles before you get in the car. For instance, I love driving long distance. My husband doesn’t do as well as I. So,we talk about the journeys.
As we continue our road trip, we know what one another needs. For instance, if I am listening to something he doesn’t want to listen to I can’t then tell them I have an issue with them using headphones. I have seen people get into arguments over headphones. So do the work, have the conversations before you load the car. Happy road tripping!
A few tips for road trips:
• To save on gas use credit cards that allow you to save or have high gas points
• Pack more than you need when it comes to snacks, entertainment, and more
• Switch the arrangements for kids in the car. Give each kid the opportunity to sit in whatever premium seat
• Take deep breaths and add plenty of stops for stretching and bathroom breaks
So, we outside on the road. Here is today’s feature for road trip 2025 Buick Enclave. If you’re looking for a great car to own or rent I want to suggest some from General Motors. One of the reasons I stand behind them is their safety features are ahead of the curve. They also are champions of making as many of their vehicles electric without compromising style or class. Some of the features of the 2025 Enclave that make it great for road trips:
- Blind zone steering assist
- Traffic sign recognition
- Wireless charging
- Wireless Apple Car play
- Super cruise hands free drive assist
