Happy Monday and let’s chat about manners.. As the holidays are on full display there are a few things that we must go over. Here is your Monday reminder that being nice goes a long way. Yesterday I was at the spa for a few hours. After I got done to kill time, I decided to run my errands that I didn’t run on Friday. I went to my favorite place, Target. I placed an order for pick up as I do to avoid overspending money. I waited over an hour, and this is what I witnessed.
Be Nicer to those Working Hard
I waited over an hour to get my items. In between that time, I had gotten a car wash and everything and still waited an hour. While waiting I called my mom. So, as I am sitting there waiting, I see a women come park her car aggressively and wait about 2 minutes before she gets out of the car, slams her door and runs into the store. Next thing I know a man working there brought me my items. Again, after an hour. The woman comes out and she’s yelling towards my car at the worker bringing my items.
As soon as I saw the guy before the woman came out, I said to him, “hello, thank you for all you do.” He replies how apologetic he is for the items taking longer than normal. I said no apologies needed and that I hope his day gets better. The whole time my mom is still on the line. He then says that he was dealing with, and I cut him off and say a Karen since the woman is hollering and I am speaking to him attempting to give him props for handling this well.
Service Industry Patience
We need more patience. The fact that the woman who mind you just pulled up felt that her 2 minute wait was ore important than the others who sat outside for an hour like me is proof that we need to do better. It is November. Should you use these types of services closer to the holidays it could get worse. I get we all have things that we have going on. Some of us are fighting invisible demons and so much more. There is no reason to react to others based upon your own issues.
Convenience turned us into Brats
Like the entitled woman at Target, some of these convenienceshave turned us into brats. The fact that someone is pulling our items for us, shopping them, and bringing them to the car some folks are acting as if this is a right. Remember the days before Instacart, or pull up orders? We had to go into the store, shop, and pay load our own cars. There were no pull up to numbers and expect miracles. Remember those days when you get your items and living your soft life. Yes, you are due good service no matter what.
Customer Service and Manners
I am big on customer service but be responsible. The world doesn’t owe you their first born just because you needed some paper towels and didn’t want to go inside to get it. Be courteous, and keep in mind that people are doing their best. IF you see someone not being nice, make sure you make up the difference. I reminded him that customer that not all customers are bad. I thanked him again and told him to be safe. Not that I thought a customer was going to be unsafe, but we live in Philadelphia, I tell everyone to be safe when I leave them every single time.
So, flex a few nice muscles this season not just in shopping, but at work, in your home, to strangers and more. The world is already ghetto. No one needs you to dump even mor foolishness into their lives. Smile, be kind, do acts of kindness, pay it forward, and be a light instead of darkness. Use your manners.
