Oh what a wonderful Monday to be alive. If you’re like me you may find that your mind is all over the place. Between the future of what ifs, the pandemic, the racial inequality, and life itself there’s nothing that is solid. When things seem to be all over the place it’s important to get back to the basics of minding our mindset.
Write it Down
It helps sometimes to write how you are feeling down. This is why journaling is important. We seem to get caught up in technology that we forget the basics of a journal and it’s benefits. Being able to write it down helps you see what your issues are. It helps to take things from your mind to paper because you may find that you are way off base when it comes to your thoughts too. I’ve had those moments when after I write it down I see that my mind is having a childish moment. I’m able to gather myself! Oh and if your journal isn’t available, use notepad, post-it, or phone note sections.
What do you want?
Sometimes we rehearse things over and over again but we don’t even know what it is we are trying to accomplish. What is your goal? If you know the goal or intended use of time, it may help you to push the other thoughts from away from you for a period of time. If I’m thinking or more like overthinking, I ask myself what is it that is more important at the moment. It helps for me to know that so I can silence the other conversations in my mind. It’s like organizing your thoughts.
Why are you Overwhelmed?
If you have a whole lot of thoughts going on at one time it’s easy to see that you feel like you’re unable to see solutions. When you don’t see solutions, it’s easy to lose your grip on reality. Are there small solutions for what you can do for now? I used to be overwhelmed thinking about the now and the future. The stress that overthinking brings can debilitate you even physically. I used to get panic attacks because I was overthinking. Panic attacks resemble heart attacks in how they feel. I would go to the emergency room and find that my heart and all other organs were fine. The doctors couldn’t mimic what I was describing and I soon learned the aftermath of not checking my thought patterns.
Sickness
You can make yourself sick. You will spend money trying to find answers that really have to do with learning how to manage stress. Stress can make you sick or kill you. I remember the doctors taking my appendix because the pain I was “in” couldn’t be duplicated. I also found myself with ulcers and everything else in between. I was in my 20s never knowing how to manage my stress and failures. It cost me years of medical bills. Had I been willing to understand the power of therapy I wouldn’t have had to go through all kinds of medical testing like upper and lower endoscopies. I had every test under the book. What I know now could have been life changing.
Healthy Outlook
Had I been able to balance drinking, partying, and have a healthy mindset my 20s would have been the best years. Instead at times I was involved in relationships that didn’t serve, took on people and things that I didn’t need, would have left organizations sooner, and I would have enjoyed my 20s focusing on travel and self care. Life is hard sometimes we allow life to go to places it doesn’t have to be. Trust me having a healthier outlook in life starts from the inside out. Things like goal setting, eating healthy, drinking water, and eliminating unnecessary relationships is really a gateway that will bring peace, glowing skin, and less stress. Trust me you need to start with a good foundation so when life really hits you have the ability to withstand.
So how will you start your Monday? I started with getting up before my house, taking a long shower, cleaning my room, setting my goals, having breakfast, speaking to my children about having a good day, and lastly I’m focused. It takes having a clear conscience. Staying in prayer, working out, etc.
You can’t control everything. Life will give some blows. One thing I do is when a situation that feels like I’ll lose, I remember the worst thing before this situation and know winning is already been written. I work on the things I can control and make sure I take care of me. No more keeping everyone around me cups’ full while I’m left with sips. Take care of you this morning! Start your day with intention. Oh and if you feel like your day has already “gotten away from you,” reset and practice good mindfulness!
Have a great day and great week!
