Mental Wellness and Self Care Queen

Happy Monday. I hope you had an amazing weekend. Today we are talking about the losing season. Why is the losing season important on a Monday? Simply as a reminder that there’s nothing you can’t do or get through.

Monday Lesson: What is a losing season?

The Losing season is the time or times in life where it appears you can’t seem to win. It’s the times when it feels like the bottom of your life has completely fallen off. Nothing you do seems to bring in a profit or reward in your life. The doors seem to be closed or closing in on you. It’s a point of life where giving up seems like the only plan. I have felt this many times in life. It’s hurtful in every way! The feeling can also be overwhelming too.

Losing Season and Your Future

Anyone who has ever experienced a Losing season knows that tables will turn. You’re fully aware of the many times before that this season doesn’t last long. What you lose in the Losing season is uncomfortable. Many people have lost multiple things at the same time. The loss makes you question your existence. However it’s the feeling of discomfort that we can use as a fuel for the better.

Depending on the level of loss can sometimes reveal the length of time I or you can move on. In your Losing Season you may experience the loss of a loved one. Beyond material things this type of loss feels gut wrenching. Nothing you do or say will correct this loss. It’s the type of loss that left unchecked can leave a deep wound.

Monday Motivation: Turning Loss into a Victory

Let me give you an example. When our house flooded a few years ago it was devastating. We had flood insurance so we knew the house would be fixed to the best of the company’s ability. We would never be made 100% whole. The flood damaged the entire basement. Our items were destroyed. A lot of my Mother in Law’s items destroyed. Many of those items we would never get back. The loss was great.

I had moved my car in the midst of the flood. The car worked up until 2 days after the flood. The water damage wasn’t immediately assessed until later and the car was damaged beyond repair. For almost a year the car sat. We went from a family of 5 with 2 cars to one. I wanted to complain but instead focused on the positives. There were many on my block that didn’t have flood insurance. Several other cars were damaged beyond repair.

As the car sat and we had confirmed it couldn’t be repaired, was right as the pandemic was in full swing. I had a drop in freelance work during this time as companies cut costs. My clients were making temporary pauses on brand deals too. It felt heavy as others felt the pinch all around. So beyond the pandemic and the flood people were losing lives. Grieve was real across the world. But like we all do, I just kept focusing. Eventually I started to see a spike in brand deals and freelancing eventually returned to the level I was used to.

Monday Motivation

We still had one car and we made it work. My husband wanted to replace the car immediately when it became inoperable. In my opinion with the way things were happening it made sense to wait. So we had many conflicts as the world began opening. If his car was available I took it. When it wasn’t we played who’s taking an Uber game. But almost a year ago, I begun to look at my vision board. I saw my car on it and kept smiling at the board daily. My husband came to me and said he found a car that was the exact match to my vision board. And cars were hard to come by then. We would have to travel to Pittsburgh to get it. So we did. What started off as a double disaster turned into the blessing.

Monday Blessings

So my loss turned into a triumphant. The issue was that it didn’t happen in the timing I had or would have wanted. We had some times when I would agree to appear for something but couldn’t last minute because of the car issue. Our house took longer to repair due to supply chain. Even when the car begun to look like a go, there were limits on where to find one. All the while we were uncomfortable. Having to adjust to major blows during this season wasn’t easy. We were tested many times. However we ended up with some wins.

There are many times Losing seasons come to make you feel unworthy of a life you seek. When those times comes it’s a road of disbelieve, anger, frustration, and more. Trust that the Losing season doesn’t last forever. It may feel as you will never win again but you will.

What to do during a Losing Season

  • Stay as focused as possible
  • Take care of what you can
  • Make wellness a daily plan
  • Cover your mind and heart in prayer
  • Don’t engage in negative talk
  • Keep your circle small and don’t tell everyone your plan-work in silence and make the goal speak for you
  • Don’t give up no matter how tempting giving up can feel
  • Take care of your mentality
  • Indulge in as much as self care as possible

As we start another Monday, stay focused. Is you’re winning season is here-stay the course. Keep the right people around who will motivate you. Don’t let the Losing season define who you are or where you’re going. When the table turns you want to be on the side of goodness.
