Can we talk about what makes a great steak house a great steak house? For instance, I have been to a few steak houses and the food was good but the service subpar. Then you have places that have amazing service, but the food is reminiscent to just edible. However, we have Martorano’s Prime combines amazing service and great food to be my pick for best steakhouse in Philadelphia.
Before you Go to Martorano’s Prime
You will have to order your food that you will consume at one time. This means appetizer, pasta, steaks, or seafood at one time. This is so that the chefs can appropriately plate and bring your entrees at the right time. Keep in mind that the timing for the food was perfectly done. You will be assigned two representatives to aid you in your dining experience. We had Q and Than and both were excellent. The pricing is set well where I didn’t see it be above what you would expect at a steakhouse at all. Drinks are priced to be about average as well. Make a reservation prior especially on Thursdays-Saturday where the night life comes alive during those times.
Keep in mind that Martorano’s is located inside of River’s Casino. This means that all guest dining will need to be 21 years and up to dine. The vibes are upscale however there were a few that were more casual as they may have come in to gamble and enjoyed their time as well. I highly recommend this as your new go to as well as an excellent spot for celebrations such as birthdays and anniversaries.
What to Expect while at Martorano’s?
If you have never had a fine dining experience this will set the bar high. We were greeted with a smile. I am big on customer service. It means the world to me especially since I do dine at several restaurants all year long. If the customer service is off, it sets the tone for what I am to expect during my time. In addition, you are going to get white glove service the entire time you are there. I mean we were treated like we were celebrities. Honestly, it’s the best service I have ever received, and I would combine all services ever in Philadelphia and not one of them would compare to Martorano’s.
If you are unsure of what you want to eat, the servers will assist you not only with recommendations, but they also use an iPad to show you what the food that you may want looks like. For someone like me who is visual it helped to carve my dining experience. You are not allowed to substitute or ask for elimination of items in your order. I thought at first it would be an issue more for my husband then me however the food was so dynamic that he enjoyed it so much.
The Quality of the Food
I have never seen my husband so happy to eat a salad in my whole over 20 years of knowing him like he was for the infamous Meatball salad. It was that good that when I seen the huge smile on his face, I knew the rest of the night was going to be dynamic. I had the Eggplant stack and never in my life has an eggplant been made so well. If you liked pasta, they serve it family style. If you remember a restaurant, I went to in Florida on my Disney vacation where the pasta was horrible because the pasta noodles were so mushy? At Martorano’s is served Al Dente and I enjoyed it.
My husband had the Ribeye Pizziola which is made with San Marzano tomato, homemade mozzarella, Calabria oregano, and long hot pepper. It was like combining a pizza, a steak, and the fusion according to my husband was the best ribeye he has had. All the ingredients used in all meals are fresh. You know that from your first bite.
I had the Lobster Francaise. It was made with South African cold water lobster tail, egg, colossal crab meat, lemon butter, and sweet pea risotto. I was blown away. FYI with all the food I ate most of everything but trust the way my lunch is set up-the leftovers are going to be the best lunch I have had all month.
Leave Room for Desserts
We enjoyed some birthday cake from Lilly Cakes. When I tell you that the slices are huge, I mean that. We shared a slice and honestly still couldn’t finish it. However, it’s an amazing piece of cake and well made. Cake is important to me as my family is serious with cakes and this cake would meet their approval. The significance of the cake is that it’s from Chef Martorano’s wife and embodies the name of both husband and wife (Marsha Daley-Martorano) team’s mom and grandmother’s name, Lillian, and a way to honor them.
Overall, this experience set the bar high for what is great service and great food. Again, there are a lot of restaurants you can choose. None that will bring the hospitality and love to each patron that walks in like Martorano’s Prime. Thank you for having my husband and I as we celebrated a late anniversary dinner.
