So many times especially in the Black community we are told that we lack healthy options. If you watch the statistics, you will know that many life off of fast food alone opting to ignore healthy options. Macho’s Delish Mix is doing their part to provide healthy options with their bowls, nachos, empanadas, grab and go options and more.
What to Expect at Macho’s Delish Mix?
You find that there are a lot of options. The staff is warm and inviting and are waiting to help you curate your eating experience. You start with your base, then add a starch like rice or salad. You can also do half and half like I did. Next choose your protein including tofu and other options. Choose your side and lastly your dressing. You can have it mixed or on the side. It’s like a Chipotle bowl experience with better options and more toppings.
Offerings at Macho’s Delish Mix
There are nachos, empanadas, rolled chicken, smoothies, desserts, fresh juices, teas, tacos, and more. The options seem endless. Unlike your Chipotle you have more to choose from like fresh cut fruit and more. They even have wellness shots.
The portion sizes are massive. I was impressed. For me even with healthy options the key is in portion control. So for me I ate a portion for dinner and will finish the rest for lunch and possible dinner. We were given so many options that our kids also enjoyed some of the food too.
Smoothies at Macho’s Delish Mix
I love a good smoothie. So many times they are made with so many processed sugars. The ones at Macho are simple and delicious. They have 2 summer flavors. One is called Summer Delish made with watermelon, strawberries, peach, agave, unsweetened almond milk and ice. It’s not overly sweets at all and the watermelon adds such a refreshing taste.
The other summer flavor is Melon Berry Mix made with watermelon, strawberries, pineapple, coconut water, agave, and ice. Both are really light and definitely quenches the thirst.
Personal Favorite so Far
Mine would have to be the hard rice, half salad bowl. For me I had spinach, tofu, brown rice, beans, lettuce, tomato, chick peas, cucumbers, avocado and my dressing was a chipotle lime. They have some of the most unique dressings I’ve seen in a while. One that sticks out is the blood orange shallot. I have yet to see that particular dressing on a restaurant menu. My husband has a bowl too but his has chicken and steak with veggies mixed in.
Empanadas at Macho’s Delish Mix
I enjoyed the spinach empanadas. They were crispy but soft and gooey in the middle. Made with care and appropriately hot I really like how flavorful they were. Instantly I knew this could be one of my favorite things to have.
How was the customer service experience?
As always I don’t reveal my bane when I walk into an establishment, I like to see how they greet customers. Immediately upon waking in although they were servicing another customer they greeted my husband and I. After they finished up with her, is when I said who I was. Prior to that they were already explaining how it worked and went over toppings. The manager/owner then came and personally handled my orders. We were content with just the bowls and smoothies but he added the tacos, empanadas, and more to make sure we got a full sense of the offerings.
Would I go back to Macho’s Delish Mix
Yes I would. I pass this way to take my kids to school. We pass the restaurant many times. Before going in I’ve always wondered what it was. The outside of it is super inviting. Now going in the atmosphere was inviting too. One thing I could appreciate is the customers who came in. They really liked them even a few police officers came in and dined. They take the love of food and it shows as they prepare your orders. Every worker we came into contact with was pleasant. In addition even though I was filming content, I did a kid of people watching.
They treated everyone the same. Everyone left happy. A lady there walked in and saw what I had and even ordered some of the same options. They take pride in their business and I wish them nothing but success. Macho’s Delish Mix are located at 6249 Catharine Street, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania 19143. This is right off of Cobbs Creek. They also offer catering too. Thank you to the entire staff for hosting us. We look forward to coming back. Happy 1 year anniversary!!
