I have never seen Les Misérables before and boy it was one of the most intriguing shows to date. From the set, the cast, the music, and the storyline. It’s dynamic in every way and is in production here in Philadelphia at the Kimmel Cultural Center from now until November 13th. Dynamic, powerful, and enduring are all words I would describe the experience of Les Misérables.
Before you Go to see Les Misérables
There is plenty of items to purchase before the show. Also there is a bar. So I would suggest to get to the theater about 30 minutes before your showing. Keep in mind they start on time. I got there a little later than I normally would and would have missed the first number. The ushers will not allow you in until after the first number. You do NOT want to miss anything. Trust me. The power of the play is from the beginning to the end. There isn’t a build up action. It starts and grabs you as soon as the first actor hits the stage. The play is broke up into 2 acts. First act is 1 hour and 33 minutes. The second act is about an hour and 7 minutes and there is an intermission.
Les Misérables Action Packed Showcase
So when I say follow the before you go please do. From the first scene the audience is understanding that ex prisoner Jean Valjean is released from police officer Javert. He is unable to find work because of his status as an ex prisoner. He steals from a church and the priest allows him to take the pieces and gives him some more. It’s the first time that he’s seen redemption. Jean Valjean also agrees to take care of a factory worker’s daughter and it literally binds them in love and hope as the story progresses.
The Set in Les Misérables
It takes you through many scenes. From the factory worker, Haley Dortch who plays Fantine makes here national debut as she also doubles as a student in real life. She is a songstress by trade. She blew me away by her first to her last note. I was so impressed. The entire cast, was phenomenal. However it is such a good note that two Minority Queer women are leads in this and I felt so proud to see this. It will leave you with goosebumps at every song. This entire cast is full of raw talent. Named one of the most beloved theater show of all time and I definitely can see why it’s called that.
I have to say the set was one of the most loved. There was 3d dimensions and when you see the actors/actresses interact I wanted to stand up almost every time. They transformed the Kimmel Cultural Center and I loved every bit.
Lessons on Love in Les Misérables
I loved the many lessons in Les Misérables. The one that I held onto the most was love and love as an action word. We see love being done as Jean Valjean takes care of Fantine’s daughter. You see love as an action word when Christine Heesun Hwang plays Eponine. She watches as her love interests falls in love with Fantine’s daughter, Cosette. This story is absolutely moving in every way. I would hate for you to miss out. Tickets are on sale now. Make sure you take your family. It is suitable for ages 10 and up. Ultimately the decision is up to you. There are times when smoke and gun fire is used or assimilated.
Seeing that no matter what your past shows it’s up to you to make the decision to change. This is on display in the show as well.
A huge and special thank you to the staff of the Kimmel Cultural Campus, Academy of Music, Allied Global, and Bryan Buttler for having me. Bravo to the entire staff even the child actors of the show were so talented. For all of the productions I see, this is one that you have to rush to see. Also the show was a full capacity so do not wait until the last minute to get tickets.
