Mental Wellness and Self Care Queen

Welcome to another weekend and that means it is time to brunch. If you are in Philadelphia and willing to take less than a 2-hour drive to Maryland, then Kōnōkō Jamaican Restaurant should be high on your brunch listing. I  encourage you to make it a day trip but start brunch off first. So here is what we had, suggestions, hotel information and all. No gate keeping here.

Why Kōnōkō Jamaican Restaurant?

The customer service alone will make me come back. We were treated with such care. You know that I try my best to gauge the customer service before I tell them I am a Content Creator. I can assure you that everyone who walked in before and after us was treated well. It makes a difference in where and who you spend your money. The restaurant industry can be a little funny and any mistreatment in the world where people run to the internet to bash a company needs to be taken seriously.  So, they get an A+ for customer service.

A special shout out to Crystal who was courteous, amazing, and has great energy!

Flight Me Please

There concept is about bringing Jamaica to you. So, once you are there you are on a flight, and I highly suggest you get a flight. They have larger flights for parties of 4 or more. These are 24 drinks on a flight. We got two smaller flights equaling to 6 drinks. Since I had to drive my normal capacity is always a 2-drink max. This was perfect. The drink options are delicious. There wasn’t any that I didn’t like. We tried them all fyi. In addition, even if you don’t get the flights that we had note that they have many other flight options like a mimosa one and other options. As always drink responsibly.

Food options at Kōnōkō Jamaican Restaurant

Jamaicans are known to make some of the best oxtails and this restaurant did an amazing job with their options. The dishes that we had was the Shrimp and Grits (you can add crab meat), Oxtails, and Lambchops and waffles. Everything was made fresh, hot, and served well. One of my issues with many restaurants is that they focus on the main dishes and give the side dishes a side eye. The mac and cheese  are usually basic, and it irritates me. That was not the case. The mac and cheese werephenomenal. I didn’t order any other sides but when I got back, I want to get the collard greens and their bread.

Make it a day

While we were visiting Maryland we stayed at Hilton Garden Inn Baltimore. The property itself was beautiful, had breakfast you could add to your stay, small pool, small work out, large facility, but the only issue that I had was the walls were paper thin. The room noise was out of pocket. It was so bad that it made it seem as if there were many conversations happening at the same time. If you can get past that it is a nice place to go. Luckily, I was only there for one night. If I had needed to stay for a short time I would choose the hotel. It’s not a place I would want to spend as a vacation.

The Avenue at the White Marsh

After brunch we went to the open-air market. I am not sure how often they are doing it, but I loved it. I love walking around shopping etc. The vendors were nice and there was plenty to do. In addition, the entire property is called, The Avenue at the White Marsh. There are plenty of other restaurants and shopping to do. It reminds me of King of Prussia’s Town Center.

Lil’ Cakes and Creamery

If you love freshly made ice cream and treats this is your must go to. The cupcakes are good and the ice cream even better. In addition, I took home some macaroons. I had the apple pie and the lemon. The apple pie wasn’t as good as the lemon.  I was expecting more of an apple pie taste. However, don’t let my tastebuds deter you from enjoying the goodies. It’s a great spot to take a family or go on your own. Lil Cakes and Creamery is a great location.

As you know by Friday’s post, we were there to see the Kirk Franklin Reunion Tour. It was a great weekend for friendship, food, fun, and worship. I am glad that I went. I encourage you all to take a day or two to renew with your friends.
