Oh what an Escape to Margaritaville looks like when you step into Walnut Street Theatre. My first time visiting the theatre and I was impressed. The show follows Tully who is 100% charmer as he runs into two women who are figuring out what they want in life. As you attend the show, you find waves of letting loose while enjoying the sounds of Jimmy Buffett.
What to Know Before you Go to Walnut Street Theatre
As soon as I walked in I was welcomed from the staff. I mistakenly got the time messed up and arrived almost an hour before the show. What I discovered is that they have at least 2 or more cafes/bar available for you to enjoy. It’s actually encouraged. In addition to the bars and cafes, there is a parking lot next to the theatre that is completely accessible. The parking lot isn’t free but the convenience of it being there is amazing. There are also many restaurants nearby like Barra Rossa which is one of my favorite for Italian dishes including great vegan options. As with all other theatres with getting drinks and more from the bar they will give you the option of using a theatre cup with a lid to take inside while enjoying your show.
The cocktails were absolutely delicious. Of course for Escape to Margaritaville there were plenty of margaritas both frozen and on the rocks. I got the strawberry margarita on the rocks. If you want to know how good they were, keep in mind I had two of them. This show is meant for adults. I would apply extreme caution when brining kids under 16 years old as their is adult language and themes.
Escape to Margaritaville Set
I was impressed greatly with the set production. It was lively, colorful and really took the audience as we let our hair down and enjoyed the show. From the beach themes to the bright bar it was not only inviting but enticing as well. The set production really should be congratulated. With all of the attention to detail it transformed the entire theatre and I loved every bit of it. Even when you thought you knew what to expect, there were surprises unfolding. I also loved how many of the audience came dressed in their best luau outfits. In the row I sat in we were completely activated by dancing and singing along.
Is Letting Go a Bad or a Good Thing at Margaritaville?
Tully played by Matteo Scammell is carefree. He is willing to encourage the ladies to enjoy their time while on the island. Margaritaville isn’t the place you fall in love. You come to drink, hook up, and have a good time with drinks flowing at every direction. However when Best Friends, Rachel and and Tammy show up to celebrate Tammy’s impending nuptials. Tammy played by Kelly Mazzella is more than ready to get into vacation mode but Rachel played by Amanda Robles is still stuck in work mode. However Tully eventually charms his way into her heart and they spend a week in vacation bliss. However as it’s time to leave, Tully wanted to become more but Rachel gets back to work and career.
FYI, I have seen Matteo Scammell at many productions before this and he owned that stage in Escape to Margaritaville.
The plot thickens when a volcano destroys the island. There are many amazing characters that are along for the journey. The entire cast was hands down dynamic as their energy fed off of one another. If you love good music this production will have you moving and grooving.
Will I attend another production at Walnut Theatre?
The answer is absolutely yes. I was impressed with the way the staff helped and were interactive. From the time I walked in they asked me if I needed anything. When it was time to sit down, they not only escorted me to my seat but at intermission the staff at the door of the theatre asked me what I thought so far. The bartender not only made my drinks well but he seemed like he loved what he did. I’ve been to many theatres and the bartenders simply make and deliver your drink. This bartender, was interactive and provided me an experience. When I went back at intermission, he knew my order and got it right again. This theatre is huge. Each floor, had multiple doors of entrance.
I want to thank Walnut Street Theatre for having me. The production of Jimmy Buffett’s Escape to Margaritaville is happening until April 30th. Make sure you get your tickets now.
