Mental Wellness and Self Care Queen

So you know last week I reviewed Hello Fresh. 3 meals to try equipped with all that I would need to turn me into an at home chef and make meal prep easy. So this week I’m back but with actual Home Chef. They have sort of the same set up as Hello Fresh. You know I get multiple companies doing the same thing trying to compete with services but I’m only looking to settle with one. Home delivery meal prep seems expensive but let’s be honest it’s not. Having all of the ingredients for a specific meal isn’t how we shop on the regular basis. How many are guilty of leaving key items at the store? Just me? Cool!

Home Chef’s Meal Servings

So with Home Chef they have options for 2 or 4 servings. I’m not sure if I saw more. I’m sure you can add more options but per price. Now I of course had the 2 meal for 2 servings per meal. Remember this was a trial run. Now what I’m impressed with isn’t as much as my meals that I will talk about below but the options to have and the variety of different meals. For one, you can have 15 minute meals, slow cooker meals, special occasion, or oven ready meals. That’s impressive if I might add. I saw that and that alone took Home Chef a little higher up the list! So to my first meal:

Baja Fish Tacos

So these tacos were fire. I made mine with tofu but still made the recipe with the fish for my daughter who said it was amazing. I took a bite to taste and she’s not lying. Everything is super fresh even the fish. It was super flavorful. I can’t even complain. Now again I keep staples like tofu, vegan cheese and mayo in my house so I substituted the vegan mayo in both the regular Baja fish and the tofu tacos coleslaw. I wouldn’t have thought to put sriracha sauce in but it was a definite great addition.

I did add avocado but that’s the vegan in me.

I give this meal two thumbs up!! I’ll be making this on my own too!

Cheese Ravioli and Mushroom Marinara

So this was my favorite. It was hard since I only had two meals but both meals were really good. I mean I was dancing while making them. However there was a downside to this meal. I luckily had my own veggie stuffed ravioli to use. I made the recipe regular allowing my oldest daughter again to be my taster. I of course took a bite of the recipe as given. Now out of the option these were the two given for the week that I felt I could substitute without incident. I always choose vegetarian because I don’t see options for vegan meals. A meal prep that does that can have my money now. I spend more times making my meals fresh that having a vegan meal kit would be love! So I await that day! If anyone knows of one let me know.

Oh and of course I substituted my own vegan Parmesan. But this meal is good and along the lines of what I eat on a regular basis but usually with a wild mushroom stuffed pasta.

Is Home Chef Worth the Hype?

Yes. It comes out to be a little cheaper than Hello Fresh. I say that even if I was to add an additional meal too. With Hello Fresh you get three 2 serving meal me for about $60. I need Home Chef to just go ahead and have a program for 3 meals. Again I like their packaging and wished I took a picture of the bags. Home Chef comes in opaque bags while Hello Fresh comes in Brown bags.

Either way it’s going to come down to preference of meal selections over anything for me. As home school meals start up, I will be picking one to do my personal meals. Next week I think I should be ready for Blue Apron. I am doing these tests runs because life is busy even at home. I’ve been under more deadlines and more brand deals than normal and I’m used to meal prepping for my family. I like the options to feel a little fancy for myself during the week.

So yes Home Chef is worthy of the hype. Although like its competitors, they have more meal type versions to choose from. I like that option.

I’m going to give them another round and see how it works out! I’ll report back! We got very little time to get aligned with one of these companies for Home School meal prep life. I know with quarantine we all been cooking more but I like the options of having more recipes under my belt!

So give them a try! I do have two coupons if someone wants to try them send me a message and they are yours! For everyone else, here’s the site for you to take a look and decide if it’s for you!
