What is healthy for me may not be healthy for you! I encourage you to speak to your doctor and nutritionist before starting any new regiment. After consulting with my doctors and nutritionist we came up with a list of vitamins and food options I would need for my body. I didn’t want to have a boat load of pill bottles so I elected to use Nature Made’s Nurish. Here are some other ways I’m getting healthier.
Getting Healthy
There are a million and one diets. Diets in my personal opinion can be a fad. Some people do well on them at first and then fade off of them later. What I’m implementing for my journey is a healthy lifestyle that incorporates what I eat, how I move, self care, self love, and adventure. This is beyond scaling back on a piece of cake. Truth be told I’m going to eat cake. Enjoying what I eat and drink in moderation has always been best for me and my doctor agreed.
Movement and Being Healthy
We all need to move something. Even if you’re not spending hours in a gym per week you need to move. Take a 15-30 minute walk. Use a stepper that you can get at Five Below and take a YouTube class for free. There is no longer a hindrance on how you move. I once read an article about an older woman who lost weight from walking the insides of her small apartment. Movement helps keeps your joints moving. Ever hear the concept that if will lose it if you don’t move it! It’s true. Once you become sedentary it is that much harder to move. The internet can be a great resource and apps to like Fiton which is free by the way!
Alcohol Intake
If you follow me on social media you know I love a good cocktail. However I also know that cocktails are high in calories. So some of my most beautiful concoctions are definite a lot. Add the food and you do this 2-3 times a week and that can’t be a good health move. So how do I balance it. I know well in advance when I’m having a media night. So I will not drink alcohol outside of the media event especially if there are more than one a week. Today I’ll be doing a detox which I’ll share tomorrow too. Being aware of these moments helps me find balance at home. So when I share a new restaurant for the week-I also make sure I’m at home eating or making better food and drink options too. Also I limit myself to 2 drink options. If you ever have seen me share more than 2 drinks at a restaurant opening-here’s a secret: I’m usually seated with more than one person. We order something different-take a sip of each one-but that gives us more than one option to share!
Water Intake and Getting Healthy
I remember when I started my journey a few years ago. People suggested sparkling water and more. That really helped. Now I add fruit to my water. It has helped me be able to enjoy the water that I drink. I am serious about my water intake. I rarely leave home without a water bottle. It helps keep me accountable. Also sometimes we think we are hungry when we are actually thirsty. So I quench my thirst as often as possible. This has helped me in great ways. So drink your water how you need to drink it but get it done.
Nurish by Nature Made
I was first introduced to Nature Made years ago when I was first pregnant with my oldest. They were the only pills I could take for prenatal care. Fast forward to a few years ago at a BlogHer Health conference in Los Angeles and I was able to connect with some of the executive team. I learned how they made their vitamins and minerals and their new initiatives for sleep and more. When I saw they had a new line called Nurish, I looked into them. The line asks you questions about your health needs and concerns. From those questions comes a list of vitamins. You can select how many you want and they package them in a daily use order. So one bubble pack per day means less bottles.
These pills are delivered every month. You have control on which pills to leave or add every month or pause the subscription too. It works for me. I like the convenience. There is no excuse as to why don’t take them. Nurish has made it easy. I worked on the questions with my doctor too. I love how personable my doctor is. We approved the vitamins together and it’s been a great addition.
Get Better Sleep
People seem to count sleep out when it comes to being healthier. Sleep is very important. I went to bed last night intentionally at 9pm. I’m working on early bedtimes when I’m not at a media event. Tonight I have one as well as tomorrow so Thursday I will do the same. Balancing my sleep has been helpful. I’m waking up more energetic and ready to take on my day. My nighttime routine now includes my SleepPhones. If you missed the blog catch up and get you a pair. Between my blue light and white noise I’m falling asleep and staying asleep. Also getting my cell out of my bed and across the room is a game changer too. Less mindless scrolling on social media apps.
Now what makes me healthier doesn’t mean will work for you. However this is an encouragement that beyond setting goals for the New Year-set goals for your lifestyle. Get active and move something daily. Take care of your mental health. Be aware and an active participant on your life. I have had moments when depression was so thick that it stopped me from being apart of my own life. These changes helped me to be more aware. Consult with your doctor or nutritionist before starting anything new. However make the appointments to your doctor, dentist, eye doctor and for my ladies, the OBGYN. Let’s all get healthier.
