Mental Wellness and Self Care Queen

One thing that many of us love to do is to get organized in the New Year. Remember once the ball or whatever your state or city is known to ‘drop” hits it becomes day 1 of 365. One year to try new things, reinvent yourself, get on track and so much more. How you do it is up to you. However, getting organized can have many price points and here are some to cut the costs down dramatically.

Organization in the Home

If you are like me than clutter may not be your thing. However no matter how much of a minimalist you want to be there are things that we simply gain while living in this world. How do you plan to work smarter in the new year? For instance one of the first places you need to do look is in your closet. This means when was the last time you have worn pieces in your wardrobe. It’s one thing to have a piece that is your motivation but too many pieces of clothes collecting dust is a blessing for others.

organizing

Organize the closet by getting rid of any clothes not worn in the last year. Make sure they are in good conditions.  Just because you are donating doesn’t mean we give away junk. If you have suits or professional clothing look for organizations that assist men and women in getting back on their feet for jobs. Donate these interview pieces to help someone else get a leg up in a budding career. If ts anything else find an organization such as a shelter or place that you know will use these items. When you take them even if you are placing in a trash bag, make sure the items are clean and folded in the manner that you would want to receive them if it was you on the other end.

Closet Organizing

The reasons we are stating with our closets is that many of us have no idea what is in them including me. As I was typing this blogpost I too did the work first. Unloading years of things that do not suit me. Making space for the things that do fit. This way as I “shop” I create a list of things that are needs and wants. Eliminating the need to buy for things I already have. If you are an impulse shopper consider making this list and keeping it on your phone. This way if you do feel the need for retail therapy it will be aligned with items that are less duplicated and will sit in the closet another year.

Panty Overall

Many of us are changing the ways that we eat. The first thing is preparation. If we have access to certain foods that we are eliminating or cutting back on it makes it that much harder to be successful in a lifestyle change. When was the last time you cleaned out your food pantry. Even if you believe that you don’t have a lot even you can have outdated, unused foods, and more. Clean it out. Like the old song by the Canton Spirituals used to say, “I got to clean up what I messed up…” Clear it out. Wipe them down. Do things like put clean contact paper down. That can costs a few dollars for the clear or white. Organize the pantry so you can keep like minded food together.

Here are a few pantry items for organization:

Bedroom Haul

I for one know that my bedroom is sometimes the room that needs the most work. If you aren’t blessed with one of these social media aesthetic rooms do not think for one second you aren’t worthy of simple organization. Even the most basics of rooms need a little refresh. So this means cleaning it first. Dust off furniture, wipe down walls, organize makeup and more. Make this space as clean as possible. My mom and I lived in a shelter when I was younger and I was taught one valuable lesson. She said that we lived in a shelter but we never had to look like we lived in a shelter. We kept our small space as clean as humanly possible.  As we transitioned she would tell me that when you don’t have a lot, get things little by little.

This meant getting things from consignment shops and more. Over time your space can go from the bottom to what the young folks call a glow up without costing all kinds of money.

Add in little to each room in your home as you clean it out. It can feel overwhelming. Commit to one room a weekend. Do whatever makes you happy in this space you have. Need a little inspiration? Check out Rochelle Stewart who is reigning on Instagram and Tik Tok on all thing clean. She is over the top but always is clear on the times she didn’t have. Like with anyone use it as inspiration and not a way to compare.
