Happy Monday. How was your weekend. Mine was super busy with a lot of running around and things to do for both content and family time. I must admit I don’t think I got that much rest. However, I am back on a Monday and want to talk about getting back to the basics. In less than a month there will be all kinds of resolutions being given but I want to jump start your thought process on “turning over a new leaf.”
Defining and Recommitting to your Routine
No day is ever the same for the most of us. With that notion, it is still important to establish a routine. This means in your morning and night routine. I find that when I am intentional with setting boundaries with time it helps me in the long run. Over the weekend despite the fact my family and I had lots to do I stuck to my Monday prep. This included meal prepping, laundry, deep cleaning of my room, getting the kids ready for school prep, and relaxing. This helped me tremendously as I got up today. It made for a smoother transition from the Sunday Scaries to the Monday focus time.
What are the ways that you prepped for today? If you didn’t, what can you do tonight to help Tuesday? Take some time to set your routine in motion as you get focused and back to the basics.
Basic Eating Habits
I am not here to police you on eating breakfast. Even with my kids, I have one child that will eat breakfast only when he/she is hungry. Another child who will not eat it and one child that eats at every meal. Getting back to the basics of eating isn’t simply about focusing on one meal. This is the time to focus on your overall nutrition. How can you support your body so that you are fueled for the day. I have been having migraines lately. When I sat last night going over my diet, I finally saw that I am missing many opportunities to eat. When I say diet, I mean my overall eating and not a diet plan. Food is about eating well and eating enough for the fuel to do all of the things that I need to do in a day’s tine. As you start focusing make sure that you not only eliminate the things you don’t want to eat but that you clear it from your home.
You can’t simply tell yourself that you want to eat less sweets and fill your home with sweets. Add what you need instead of focusing on what you can’t have.
Find Your Passions
The other day a Content Creator got online and complained about not feeling supported by Black people. Yes, she was Black. Here is the thing about that. It shouldn’t hold enough weight to be concerned about who is or isn’t supporting you. I’ve been saying since I started that even if it was one or 99 I would run this blog the same to be of service. As you get focused find your passions. When you find your passions, you can do a call to action to your community, but you take the moments to focus on the reasons and not on the audience. When you are passionate it will come out in all that you do. Many people say that they do not know what they are passionate about.
I beg to differ. Often what you are passionate about you gravitate towards. For me writing was focus. Even when I wanted to ignore it I couldn’t. Start with where you excel. You can turn your likes into a side hustle that can turn in something bountiful. You can hear more about passions from Sheila Bender on last Friday’s podcast episode.
Mental Health Check-In
It may be a good idea to keep a journal on your feelings. If you don’t have access, use your phone’s notes. Write every time you are excited, unhappy, feeling low, angry, etc. This may seem tedious at first but knowing your triggers means taking an extra set to learn you. For instance, over the weekend I was deeply agitated over things that should have been minuscule. I noticed that it was because it was close to the fact that I was missing my doses of medicine and didn’t have the right food or water intake. The second I was able to refuel, grab something to drink, take my meds, and relax I saw a shift in my mood.
If you know you are beyond needing to see your therapist, get evaluated, or need to start the process of therapy, do it now. Make an appointment today. Stop reading and make yourself a priority. You may not have all the answers today but start towards one.
This Monday’s blog is to encourage you as you keep on moving in life. Take charge of the things you can. Have a great one and start thinking about how you can get to the basics in life.
