Do you love comfort foods as much as I do? It’s something about it that warms the soul. I had the opportunity to go to Set located in Northern Liberties and the experience, was amazing.
Appetizer Love
I love starting my eating experience with an appetizer. FYI let me say I start with appetizer sometimes in my private eating experience due to making sure if it’s a new place, I can leave right after if the appetizer fails. Sorry but a new place doesn’t always mean a great good experience for me. Set passed with flying colors. They had me at the Beyond Meat Cheeseburger Spring Roll. I hadn’t had it before but let me say, after eating it, I’ll be back for sure! Full of flavor and amazing at every bite!

Tempura Shrimp Poppers
I mean I went ahead for the purpose of “research” to have another. Normally I’m a one and done on the appetizers because I want to save room for drinks and the main course. I’m not gonna lie, Set doesn’t hold back on the serving size. These are shareable. For little old me, I was almost full just from the appetizers. However if you’re in a group setting I would suggest, ordering a few options. This would be a great way to keep it light for drinks and light bites too.
The Tempura Shrimp Poppers are full of flavor. They don’t disappoint at all. They have everything you would expect and more.
Tacos anyone?
Are you noticing taco trends of late? One of my favorite things to eat. However the tacos at Set come with a twist. They have pairings I had not had and that speaks volumes since I consider myself a taco connoisseur.
Mix or Match
At Set you can mix or match any of the tacos 3 for $14. I think the average person can consume 3 tacos on their own. However when I’m out with my friends if we are sharing the meal, we may order the different combos just to be sure we have tried them all. What made Set’s tacos from the rest is my favorite of the night, Bulgogi Cheesesteak. It’s something about the flavoring that stood out to me. Now don’t get me wrong, none of the others was bad at all. They were quite good. It just was the favorite one.

Drink Warning
So let me be clear, I went to Penn State University, drinks and I go together. I haven’t found a drink that makes me take a step back as much as they do at Set. If you ever visited a restaurant and felt like the drinks were super watered down, these aren’t it! I went in on this past Wednesday and let’s say I needed it. No way I left disappointed. I had the Frozen Rum Punch, it was perfect. A great drink for a hot Summer day.
I also enjoyed a Lycheetini. It’s a mix of Vodka, Lychee juice, simple syrup and lychee garnish. Pro Tip: ask for it frozen. Frozen is of the will! Right after having all of the food, it was refreshing. Yes this too is strong. Set isn’t playing around with the alcohol at all. I’m here for it!
So what if you aren’t a taco person? That’s fine! You can try their sliders or wings. I didn’t have the wings, but the sliders are life. The sliders are 3 for $14 just like the tacos and they are mix and match! My favorite out of the options was the Pat Lafreida 30 day dry aged. It was super juicy, and full of amazing flavor. Just like the tacos, the other options were great too.
Safety Procedures
So with all outdoor eateries, you must wear your mask until you are seated. Staff keeps their mask on the entire time. Hand sanitizer are available and to order your food, use the QR code. This keeps things as safe as possible for everyone involved. Tables were spaced apart appropriately. Set is first come, first served. Outdoor eating of course since indoor eating won’t take place until after Labor Day!
Set is a great place for great food and incredibly great drinks. It’s a nice spot to bring friends together and do it safely with a little fun. The breeze on Wednesday was beauty. It’s great to see how they have turned Northern Liberties into a great space to dine and shop.
