General Motors teamed up to bring the fire for the Made in America Festival this past weekend. What I and many others experienced was the showcasing of the artist featured in the Neighborhood Project. Also the new GMC Hummer EV. The point was for many of us come can come together as we share in inclusivity, and more. This weekend gave me the vibes that was needed and more. What do you get when you mix part art, music festival, diversity, and sustainability? A Made in America and GM partnership made for the community and beyond.
The Neighborhood Project
General Motors teamed up with 4 artists to allow them to paint and make their own hoods. Now hoods when you think about cars has always been something that is like jewelry or accent piece. On a Camaro outside of the car being something that is a well loved car, customization on cars is real. A car says a lot about you. Having the ability to transform these hoods allows the artistry to be seen. For instance, as a kid seeing all of the young men and women alter their cars was a right of passage. The cars unique alterations was always a vibe. As you grow older not only are you able to do what you want but put a little bit more money behind it.
The artists shown were: Symone Salib, Upendo, Jerk Beasley and Shaina. All of the hoods were glorious to see. Colors, shapes, and more were used to bring diversity to the hoods. So at Made in Festival where music, art, and diversity are celebrated this was a no brainer.
The New 2023 GMC Hummer EV
When you think of a Hummer you may be thinking of a car that is larger than life. Being larger than life, doesn’t meant that it can’t be powered by electric. When I tell you I was impressed I really mean it. The Hummer has all of the bells and whistles and more. For instance it’s fully charged and being called Super Trucks. It gives you the luxury of let’s say a Lamborghini but is a SUV. What is a few things you notice off right, the removable glass window panels and 35 inch tires. It’s massive however since I do own a Traverse I didn’t feel intimidated when I got inside of it. The seats is leather and smooth in every way.
For those thinking about safety, GM is thinking about that too. It has seat belts that loosen and tighten to keep you safe but not too tight. Not to mention the airbags also help to prevent a head injury when deployed for both the passenger and the driver. Again being electric is also helping eliminate emissions, saves on gas, you won’t need an oil changes, spark plugs replaced, but still get high performance.
Brand Appreciation: GM’s Hospitality
Before I even went to Made in America I had a few reservations. If you remember for Fourth of July I had an encounter at the Concert on The Parkway. Safety was my number one concern. GM made sure that my car was super secured while attending Made in America. I was invited to attend both days of the 2 day festival however, I was only able to attend Sunday’s Day 2. Before we even got to the festival, GM and their team made sure that we were well fed. We started my day having a little Brunch at Urban Farmer. Urban Farmer is located inside of The Logan Hotel. Everything we ate was amazing including our Brunch Cocktails.
They made sure that we were escorted back to the cars and hotel afterwards. I am talking full on top tier security provided. I felt safe and really allowed me to let my guard down and really enjoy. Made in America Festival is really a diverse music festival. It was a beautiful thing to see the thousands who came out to have a good time. GM made sure that I and Elle aka Siponwhat had the time of our entire lives.
Made In America Fun
We were whisked away in of course, GM cars to the festival. We were taken to the very entrance of the festival. Once there we walked to GM’s Ground Zero. Here we were introduced to the artist as well as their amazing hood art. We also enjoyed our time viewing the GMC Hummer EV in all of its glory. Everything I mentioned above is hard to place in words. I want you to go to your nearest GM dealer and test it for yourself. It’s stunning. We also was able to meet more GM members of the team. We took our time here. From there we went to the Ultium Lounge where all of our needs were met. From small bites to drinks were readily available. The lounge was right in the front of the main stage, Rocky Stage. This was where the headliners of the festival could be seen.
VIP Access to Made in America
We had access to the entire festival, however I loved the Lounge to avoid so much of the crowd. This came in handy when Bad Bunny came on. There was no standing room in the crowd below us. This allowed us to see the show without others in front of us blocking our view.
GM Owner
Overall not only is GM making sure that they are doing their part to help bring sustainability to their cars/suvs/trucks but on and offline aligning with diverse initiatives in a real way. Seeing how multicultural their team was made my heart beam with pride. I hope other companies learn to diversify their employees, do more for the communities that they serve, work, and live in because GM is definitely doing their part.
As a GM car owner who has owned more GM cars than other brand I have nothing but positive buying and servicing stories to tell. I just bought my Chevrolet Traverse and it will be a year on September 24th. My car’s name is Epiphany because I manifested her on my vision board. I stand behind that purchase. GM made it easy for me to do the paperwork when the pandemic’s car buying felt stalled. It was worth a 5 hour drive to get her.
Thank you to GM for the hospitality, to being true to your brand on and offline, making me and my guest feel safe, and allowing us to have the best unofficial end of Summer with Made in America with D’ussé. When my anxiety began to set in it was the GM team that from the start treated me like family. That helped me to be able to settle in and enjoy the ride, literally and figuratively. GM set the bar high for Brand Partnerships and I look forward for more opportunities soon to collaborate. Also make sure to check out my video content on Instagram and TikTok.
