Happy Friday and cheers to the weekend. I hope your week was great. I didn’t do a mid-week check in. So today’s Friday check in is going to be extensive. This week was hard. As much as I have attended events and had a little down time, I experienced burn out and it was extensive.
Burnout is Real
I felt a bit washed out. Burnout when you deal with depression, feel the same; at least for me. I wasn’t sure if I was depressed, burned out, or a combination. Sitting at my laptop with no direction has been a regular occurrence. So this week I made sure not to force a blog. So the blogs you have seen wasn’t about deadlines. It was more or less when I felt inspired. When burn out happens, I realize that I needed to check the way the I do what I do. Changing up my systems has been a great way to be honest about my burn out and deal with it.
If you experience burn out you know that overwhelming feeling of trying to do it all but having little to no energy is real. You have moments of not being able to breath-insert anxiety. I had to use my emergency plan. Thankfully I only got to step 2 of it. If you don’t have an emergency plan its a plan that utilizes the things that you learn in therapy. It makes you aware that you are going through mentally. In addition, there are steps you make and if need be you have to call your therapist. Thankfully I didn’t need to do so but I did email her. She helped me with some exercises that I can utilize. I share this not in a way for sorrow but a way to help someone else be okay understanding personal needs.
The Wellness Refinery
Now how did I experience burn out the day after I went to The Wellness Refinery, I needed more self care and rest. I didn’t allow myself rest. I had a low key week this week and allowed Monday guilt to stop me from taking a nap. Because I used my emergency plan by Tuesday I attended the meetings I had to and rested. It was a great way for me to tap into the peace I felt at The Wellness Refinery. So yes, as much as I was into the peace of The Wellness Refinery, I should have tapped into more of that sooner by being honest about what I was feeling. Make sure that you tap into your self care and sometimes make sure its deep seated and intentional.
Choir Boy
If you didn’t catch the blog on Choir Boy, read it. Choir Boy is an amazing production that speaks on what it means to be authentically you. Are you willing to hide who you are for others? What will it cost you? In Choir Boy it was a lot. The production is in full swing until March 13, 2022.
Theatre Horizon’s TJ loves Sally 4 Ever
This has been an amazing week of theatre. I will also be attending another theatre production tonight. TJ loves Sally 4 Eva is riveting. It’s a mashup of the present that questions what the future will look like. I enjoyed it and even left as an honorary member of BBE. It will make sense when you see it. Also can’t be mad at the Jello shot kit we received too. This college experience of being Black at a predominantly White school comes with the level of adjustment that isn’t for everyone. It’s multifaceted.
Women’s History Month
We are well into the first week of March. March is Women’s History Month. I am grateful for having some amazing women that will speak their truth about the things they have accomplished, businesses they have completed, and more. The first feature is JJ Ramberg. She is the Co-Founder of Goodpods. What is Goodpods? Read the blog and find out.
Conversations with Toi Friday Drop
Today’s podcast host is also JJ Ramberg. If you read the blog, she is the Co-Founder of Goodpods. They (hint from above) are a podcast player. It’s an amazing app that allows you to be able to listen, follow, claim your show, and monetize. It really is an expansive player. JJ Ramberg is one who not only believes in what she is working on. She did the work behind the scenes to get it off the ground.
We talk about what she and her Co-Founder has been able to do. In addition, Goodpods is about Indie Podcasters. Giving them a voice and ability to build community. So if you haven’t had the opportunity to download it-do it now.
Weekend Plans-Friday Media Round Up
This will be an extensive weekend. With me experiencing burn out this week I am clear about being too busy. Being busy can mask burn out well. Being honest about where I am I have had to make some peace with my weekend schedule. I will be attending the events that I have committed to. I will not be doing anything extra outside of that. So I know I have friends who read this, please do not invite me this weekend to anything extra. I will be saying NO. I need to regroup.
Friday Movie Suggestion
This week I have limited my alcohol intake. I will be enjoying a cocktail or wine tonight at an event. But this week recognizing that I needed to abstain has been helpful. Clear heads can see things the way they need to be seen. I hope that you do something nice for yourself. Be clear on what you need. If you are experiencing burn out, look at how you are doing what you are doing. Do you need to eliminate certain practices? Cut some items out of your schedule? Say NO? Rest? Consider all of this as you move towards a healthy mindset and way of life.
Have a great weekend. Be on the lookout for fresh blogs. If they don’t come up realize I decided to take that break and they will be up as soon as possible. If you live in the Mainline area make sure you indulge in the Mainline Today Restaurant week as it ends on Sunday. Lastly The Batman is out today. I saw it a week ago and its worth watching. Thank you to Warner Brothers and Allied Global for having me. Happy Friday!
