If I have told you before theatre is definitely a big part of my world. I saw The Flatlanders and have not laughed so hard in a long time. It follows Jennifer Childs as Ronnie and Scott Greer who plays Michael. This couple is on their way to their own wedding when a snow storm caused them to have an accident. With nowhere to go they find a home and “break” in to keep themselves safe. What they find outside of some very sketchy bedroom attire and lifestyle is a culmination of should they marry or not. The amazing Playwright is Bruce Graham. By the way the play makes even more sense since the couple is a real life couple.
What to Know before you Go to see The Flatlanders
This show is definitely for ages 16 and up and I would even say maybe keep it at 18 and up. There is strong language and sexual themes presented. Parking near the theater is limited however between street parking and a lot nearby give yourself an extra 30 minutes to park, grab a cocktail, or get settled. The show is about 75 minutes with no intermission. It’s high energy from the time it starts until it stops. This is a show for all but couples will really see themselves or not in the show. Stop and have dinner and then see the show and I promise you that you will not regret your decisions.
Masks are not required except on February 11th and the 15th.
Comedic Timing in The Flatlanders
This show is full of comedy. If you have ever been around a couple that argues but their arguments make you laugh more than cause concern this is the tone that The Flatlanders has. I have been around couples in the past where you side eye them more than you question. Partly because you don’t want to interrupt so you can see where this story goes. Jennifer and Scott brought their own level of energy that honestly I can’t imagine any other couple being able to do. It’s one thing to know your lines. However, to bring the level of fun and bewilderment that is The Flatlanders is worth seeing multiple times. If you need something to do on Valentine’s Day it would be a great way to end the evening.
Life Lessons in Flatlanders
I won’t give the some of the detailed lessons but one thing that stood out to me was the fact that no matter how messy the fight got or how messy their overall situation was they had one another. Like many couples it isn’t how you fair when life is doing what you want but how you fair when it doesn’t. The amount of the strangest of incidents that was compiling on them was realistic if you think about it in the sense of a metaphor. However in real life I don’t see many couples doing what Ronnie and Michael had done. However its the end that had me lying and wanting more. I wanted to see this all the way through.
Overall Rating of the Show
