Establish a Wake Up Time

This is key. You want to establish a wake up time and stay as consistent with it as much as possible. How much time do you need to get ready? Consider adding a few other items to your morning routine such as making your bed, journaling, prayer, etc. All of those activities help to determine your wake up time.  Also with setting up your wake up time this will also prompt your bedtime schedule. Your body needs rest. Rest allows your body and mind to renew. It aids in weight loss and maintaining a healthy weight too.

Journaling/Gratitude Journal

There is a lot of benefit in writing your gratitude down first thing in the morning. It gives you something to focus on than social media. Its reported that 90% of young people are using their phones first thing in the morning. I would like to think everyone on both an older and younger spectrum are doing the same thing. Although cell phones are good tools to use, the use of a phone early in the morning means you are being inundated with all kinds of potential negative influences. Start with gratitude. You can buy a journal from as cheap as the Dollar Store to as expensive as you seek. The art of journaling is that although there are different kinds of writing styles, it doesn’t have to be in any format. Simply write and be consistent.

Meditation/Prayer

Prayer for whatever religious beliefs you stand with is important. If you’re not deeply religious there’s still nothing wrong with having a relationship with the Creator. So get up in the mornings and lay out your heart’s concern. There’s so much peace in releasing your cares before you pick up new ones in your day. Use mediation as a way to ground and connect as well. You have the power to channel your energy into greatness first thing in the morning-let’s use it.

Assess Your Needs

Simply starting your day with no direction and winging it is not the way to move. Assess your needs. Start with the most pressing item and work your way down. This allows you to actually have a game plan. Sometimes we forget our things to do simply because we haven’t written them down. Write your things to do according to the need. Give priority to things that are on a deadline. Whatever you don’t do-release it for the next day.

Breakfast Matters

So many people do NOT eat breakfast. Although you may dread early morning risings, your body still needs some sort of fuel. September is Better Breakfast month. In this month establish your go to breakfast items. As the weather changes, add some hearty items like oatmeal or grits. Try some new seasonal flavors too. If you’re still struggling, no worries try prepping your breakfast at night. This takes the excuse that you don’t have time. Also with setting your morning wake up time you’re able to add in breakfast.

In your morning routine a few things to do at night will help too. If you spend a lot of time figuring out what to wear in the morning, set your clothes at night. Although this is a skill that was given to many as a child, they build healthy habits for adulthood too. This will give you more time to focus on  assessing your needs, journaling, hair, makeup or whatever else time you need. Set an intentional bed and wake up schedule. You need the rest. Invest your time wisely. Be clear on your needs. This is important to getting back to YOU. All of this will help guide your day. You will be more alert and ready to take on the day’s task.
