Mental Wellness and Self Care Queen

As we push through August and forge towards the month’s theme of sparkling creativity let’s focus on our home space. Everyone needs a wellness corner. It doesn’t matter how big or small your home may be. You can craft either a room, a space, or whatever you desire for your wellness corner. The goal is to create a space that allows you to unwind, restore, and reset daily.

Why A Wellness Corner?

Even if you live alone, you may not have a designated space that is set for wellness. The space can be as lowkey or extravagant as you would like. The corner is yours and yours alone. The goal is to not allow this space to be cluttered or ignored. This is your space to reset. The goal is to honor you and your goals. Having that space dedicated to keep you focused and aligned is important. You are deserving of this space.

Where to make a Wellness Space

When was the last time you took up space? This is space to simply express joy or relieve pain. How can you create space in your home without allowing guilt to creep in? Reminding yourself of your worth is probably the best place to start. Remembering that being a vessel of love to others also means filling your cup too. Having the dedicated space will get you into the habit of filling your cup on a normal basis. The goal is to get used to feeling joy again in your space without waiting for life to crash on you.

Wellness

Fill this space away from your bed. I know many of us have comfortable beds or at least that is my hope. Your bed is for sleep. Some people mediate in your bed, but it should be in an upright position to prevent yourself from sleeping. The wellness space needs to be able to craft you being engaged with yourself. Find a corner of a room, a spot in the basement, make a palate of beautiful pillows, or even take a space outside of an office.

What to include in your Wellness Space

Keep the elements of your space as light as possible. Remember the more you put into it especially if it’s not functional the more space will take away from the goal. Bring in the colors that make you feel bright. Remember on bad days, rain, or other moments when you will feel overwhelmed the space will be your happy space. Add in things like books you have on your list to read, journals, things like favorite teas, mugs and more. You can inspiration from places like Pinterest to help you craft the space into what you want. It doesn’t have to be the most decorated. Simple spaces will do.

What not to Include in your Space

The biggest thing not to include in your space is other people’s items. Do not others to not respect your space. No dumping of toys, or other items simply because its there. Honor yourself and keeping this space clean and ready for you. At times when you are stressed go to it and find refuge. Even when you are busy you can spend some time in it doing things like writing for 15 minutes, listening to relaxing music, or simply sitting in the quietness that life sometimes drowns out with worry and fear. Whatever you do in this space make it a part of your daily habit to do it. Even the things you do in other spaces of the house but can do in your wellness space dedicate your time to doing it there.

Wellness

Keep this space well maintained. If you can place a small fridge there, stock it with healthy choices and water. Allow the space to be clean. Remember this is your space to retreat. Nothing says retreat in a space that isn’t well maintained. I know we have a lot to clean and do daily, but this carved out space is less about chores and more about a rebuilding space for your mind and body.
