In addition, often the grieving process of the life before cancer, and if unfortunate the life of a loved one once they have transitioned from cancer there is still support.

My Experience Learning about the Cancer Support of Greater Philadelphia

We took a Sunday and had a time learning about the services. I was impressed with the fact that they have full body and wellness programs. Things like yoga and other meditative services is available. Every person on their staff is licensed mental health professional. I really appreciated learning about that. For every step-in life your mental health will be triggered. To know that they care about each patient who has walked in the door makes them special.  Over 30 years of service and this was the first time I had ever heard of them. They also make sure that they have social programming too. Think about when you are sick, you may not want to come out to a group therapy session but would elect to join others who are going through a similar journey, for a breakfast or gala.

If you have been around others who have gone through or currently going through their cancer journey, you know having the fullest of support around you is key. Knowing that patients can get all of this without costing them money is a beautiful thing.

A day of Learning

While there we not only learned, but we toured the facility. The Philadelphia location is located at 4100 Chamounix Drive which is in Fairmount Park. Upon entering you don’t get the vibe of an office. It looks and feels like a peaceful oasis. From the sunroom, memorial garden, and more I instantly felt like I was home.

We took a Qi Gong class. I hadn’t taken one before, but I was pleasantly surprised of how well it helped to regulate our shoulders and arms. As a content creator those muscles are the first to be strained. We also made friendship bracelets that we made with full creative control. Most of us made sure that each bracelet had powerful sayings. Mine was powerful. I want whoever gets it to know that regardless of what they are going through that they are powerful in this journey. Also, I prayed over my bracelet too that everyone that encounters the person receiving it will be blessed.

I want to personally thank the staff of Cancer Support Community of Greater Philadelphia for having me and my oldest daughter. We got an opportunity to meet other content creators around and have a great day learning how we can spread the message. If you hadn’t heard about them before, please make sure that you do your part by either donating or sharing this blogpost to help others learn. In addition to the Fairmount location, there are 6 other locations.
