Murder for Two presented by Bristol Riverside Theatre is a two man production. It will evoke all your emotions as they figure out who murdered Great American Novelist, Arthur Whitney. Marcus is teetering between proving that he’s ready to be a detective. Martin Landry and Joe Kinosian are pure talent as they work well together on stage without missing a beat..
Covid-19 Protocols
Bristol Riverside is having all patrons to be fully vaccinated and to show proof of their vaccinations. They check it outside of the venue before you are allowed to go in. Also they are asking all to not only wear their masks but to keep them on the entire show. That made me feel secure as they goal is to get back into the swing of life and keep everyone safe. They are enforcing the masks so if you are seen to pull it down they will politely ask you to put it back on.
Welcoming Spirit
Bristol Riverside is really great with a general welcoming spirit. Every time I am there they are always making sure that everyone feels like the venue is opened up just for you. Also with the Covid-19 protocols they went above to make everyone feel welcomed. I always enjoy my time there.
The Crowd
Although they are more than excited to get back to normal I liked how full but yet not congested the seating was. It’s important to be sure that all are safe. I attended the Saturday night show and it was a great crowd. It’s such a great time to finally see an indoor show. Bristol Riverside was the last show and media event I saw before the lockdown.
Two Person Show
I love shows that have a limited acting capacity. It allows the audience to focus on the actor’s diversity and reach. Give Joe Kinosian’s his flowers now. He has the ability to act several roles with such joy, poise, and creativity I forgot that he was playing the moving roles. He was clear in his roles and not one time was I confused. I’ve been around theatre my whole life and there are a lot of seasoned actors who can’t pull that off.
Life Themes with Marcus
In every production there are underlying and overt life themes. When Marcus played by Martin Landry was trying to prove himself, its a story that many of us have had to answer. Am I being seen? Can I really prove that I can handle this new responsibility? Marcus was really also in the midst of pain of his own. People say that all of us are within 6 degrees of separation. As Marcus is racing the clock to solve the Murder before the real Detective shows up, you see his own mental health being played out. It doesn’t help that his own Psychiatrist is there as a suspect.
Who is the Murder?
As the play continues everyone in the room has motive. If you ever have watched a Murder Mystery. This Murder Mystery is really not just about who did but the ways in which we look at those around us. Someone who may have appeared to have “done it” is based upon how you view those and sometimes the blinders of protection. Not wanting to see people for who they are can keep you closed minded to the truth. That is where Barrette Lewis the prima ballerina and Marcus’ view of her. His desire for her answers the very comedic but interesting relationship with him and his past ex. Who murdered Novelist Arthur Whitney…you will have to attend the showing to find out.
What to Expect
Expect to laugh, there is a lot of dry and overt humor. There are moments when you shouldn’t be laughing but you will find laughter showing up. Also keep in mind, that the show will start on time. Be on time if not earlier to your start time. You will need time to get to your seat as well as show proof of your vaccination.
Singing and Music
I have to give both Martin Landry and Joe Kinosian major props. They both play the piano well and can sing. I am a sucker for Musical types of productions. There are large elements of both. I enjoyed every bit of it. The way that both actors played off of each other is phenomenal. Its hard to believe that they were randomly paired in a musical workshop in 2008. They operate more as friends on stage than just fellow actors.
I was grateful for the laughs. I was able to escape during the 90 minute production. It didn’t matter that I was frazzled a mere moments before I got there. Thank you to Bristol Riverside Theatre and Aversa PR for having me. Make sure you catch Murder for Two as it will be on display until October 10, 2021.
Also as things get moving for theatre if you’re not able to see the production, consider giving a donation.
