If you never seen the Blue Man Group and you live in or near the Philadelphia area you are missing out. The Blue Man Group bring joy in the form of music, comedy, lights, and paint. It’s the only blue I want to experience in this season.
Before you Go
As always I give a before you go. This helps you prepare. The show is a family oriented show. Kids of all ages can have a great time. It is recommended for kids ages 5 and up. However as long as your kids can stand the loud noises, fog, and don’t have sensory issues they will be fine. Come prepared to arrive a little early. There are no souvenirs to buy but there is a bar with snacks and drinks. Yesterday there were technical issues that were resolved. Once you see the magnitude of the show you will see how possible it can be. Kimmel Center worked fast to get it resolved before opening the house.
Pack patience. Everyone wants to get to their seats. In addition there are seats if you get them upfront that will be supplied with a poncho. This is to protect you from the liquids that will fly during the show. Even if you’re not in the front of the house, keep in mind the members are extremely active. They walked in my row with my youngest and we loved it. There are times when they could pick you to come up to the stage or other participating events. The show runs for 75 minutes and no intermission. There is no phone or screen recording or photos during the show.
Blue Man Group and Joy
I can’t put into words but I’ll try. They are just a sense of joy. From the music that they play and the interactiveness that they without speaking is so much fun to watch. They bring you into their joyfulness. As soon as the show starts the Blue Man Group sense of entertainment is beyond anything I’ve ever seen. If you remember when I interviewed Mike Brown of the group on the podcast, he said it would just like I saw.
What to Take Away from the Show
My youngest missed a few cues that I felt were adult like but not inappropriate. Some things just from her being a kid went over her head. However she was blown away from seeing the Blue Man Group. When one of the members walked into our row, she saw their skin and she wanted to know how it got that way. The end when the steamers and fun happens she just was in awe of all of it. For me I felt like I needed the joy the unfold. Like it was a way to breath a sigh of relief from everything holiday related. It was like a joyful cleanse that I can take into the New Year. Everyone will interpret their own take aways.
Expect the Unexpected at Blue Man Group
Things that wouldn’t make sense in the regular world will make sense on stage. Like a rubber chicken guitar off would make sense in a regular world. Be open to the fun. It’s going to happen. So enjoy the moments. Take your family. It is a lifetime experience. When I went to Vegas they were there and I missed them. To have them here in the hometown was amazing. If you live nearby and can make it to the show do it. They are here until December 31st.
Thanks to Kimmel Cultural Center, Blue Man Group, Mike Brown of the Blue Man Group for the interview on the podcast, Carole Morganti, and all the staff of Kimmel for an amazing Mommy and Me Date with my youngest. Tickets are still available.
