Mental Wellness and Self Care Queen

BlogHer

If you missed Blogher Health Part One, go ahead and catch up. BlogHer Health was held in Los Angeles. I went there to enjoy the conference and to do some content there. More on that soon. During BlogHer Health its a great way to hear from the industries best on the new innovations of what is happening in the Healthcare scene.

Women’s Health Prioritized

This was a well needed discussion on the health and wealth of getting rest. I am not the only one who struggles with rest. Matter of fact, these last past few weeks since BlogHer my sleep has gotten worse. I now realize that I need to see someone to talk about it and get aligned. I wrote a blog about sleep and it’s worth a read. Dr. Susan Mitmesser and Resha Gopaldas talked heavily on sleep measures that we can take. This was sponsored by Nature Made. They have new Well Blends that help with sleep and stress. So make sure you take a look at them. Anything Reshma and Dr. Susan get together to talk it’s always going to be a lot of fun but super informative.

Black Maternal Health

It’s hard to say which of the panels were the best. One of the things that I have heard in the past is that BlogHer caters to a younger crowd. BlogHer caters to all women from all walks of life. It was on full display during this conference. The conversation about maternal black births and health was one of my favorites. I have talked about how my littlest almost killed me. Not really but is worth the read. The fact that Black Mothers are less likely to be heard, have health scares taken seriously, and more subject to death during childbirth is astonishing. We live in the most wealthy country in the world and we can’t keep Black Mothers safe is beyond me.

So many Black Moms know all too well what it’s like going into labor. Even before labor having doctors who don’t understand your culture can be detrimental to her health. We had the best of the best talking to us. Dr. Cindy Duke and Kimberly Duron moderated by  Jesyka Harris. If you are unfamiliar with Dr. Cindy Duke, she is a dual Fertility expert and Virologist. Understanding racial biases as it was taught to her had my jaw dropped. Kimberly Duron is a Birth and Postpartum Doula. I remember thinking Doula were for rich women. Realizing all that they do if I could go back for the births of my 3 children I would have had one.

Menopause Talk with Stacy London

As we age if we are honest, vaginal health and what we need as we transition into the new space that menopause brings. Stacy London best known as the previous host of What Not to Wear speaks on her own journey of menopause and how her company, State of Menopause which she is a Co-Founder. The products are helping with all of the moving parts of pain, discomfort, and hormones. I loved having Jesse Draper with Stacy do the talk. They together are unapologetically unashamed, and bold and I love that.

BlogHer and Connections

One of the things that I learned to do is connect with others. So this means stepping out of my comfort zone. Being able to do so much better in that is key. I have gotten comfortable with going to BlogHer events. In years past at my first one, I was so nervous but I refused to waste my time and money to go. One thing about BlogHer is the women for the most part are welcoming. It’s nothing for someone to see you and speak up. My Best Friend Cheryl came and she was welcomed with open arms. These conferences aren’t her thing but it didn’t matter because others around her made sure she was comfortable.
