Into the Woods is an amazing story of enchantment, lessons, and thrills. An amazing musical that takes the audience into the stories of their childhood, with a twist. The way in which the actors/actresses engage their audience is nothing like I have seen before. Based on the book by James Lapine and written by Stephen Sondheim, Into the Woods is one of my personal theatre favorites.
Into the Woods Musical Numbers
When I think of musicals you immediately think of high performing singers who blow you away with their vocals. Into the Woods entire cast is star studded. One of the benefits of the way production had the audience seated at various parts you are able to hear the actors/actresses voices blended and individually. As a child that grew up with a Choir Director I can hear music in ways that many can’t. The musical numbers are outstanding. The songs were upbeat and really was part of the storytelling process. The show is really for anyone of all ages. I took my 13 year old and she loved it. The vocals again I can’t get enough of.
Into the Woods Story Book Themes
So a lot of the story follows several storybook themes. From Rapunzel, Cinderella, Red Riding Hood, Jack in the Beanstalk and The Baker and his wife. Being careful for what you wish for is a huge theme that occurs in the story. All of the characters have their own individual desire or wishes. Yet in order to get them, they were intersect with one another in ways that demonstrate how well they work together or not. In addition, the choices that they lead in life comes into play.
Into the Woods…Adulting and Lessons
We all have to go into woods. No matter where your woods take you, we all have lessons to learn. From craving more than we need to be content in whatever state we are in-lessons are always being presented. Also taking things or people who do not belong to us and more, we all have lessons. They learned a lot of what they would do when faced with adversity. In addition when presented with lack they learned how to work together to forge a new sense of family. It’s a lot like life we never know what we do until we are presented with the challenge of making it happen.
Tiara Greene
As I stated before that every cast member is truly remarkable in what they do, but I have to give it up to Tiara Greene who during the performance I attended played the Witch. It’s unusual to love the main protagonist so much but alas here we are. Her voice is pure. I mean her tone and pitch is almost perfection that you hate to love her. Her stage presence is commanding. Her acting is absolute perfection. I was most definitely drawn to her. She’s undeniably one of the best I have seen and I attend quite a few productions a month.
